Thankfully I can say no to this question — I've never walked in on my parents having sex, but I do have friends that have! Of course, I'm thrilled to know that my parents still love each other and their fire still burns for one another, but I'm relieved to have virgin eyes when it comes to witnessing their sex life. So ladies, even though this is one seriously embarrassing topic of conversation, tell me, have you ever walked in on your parents getting busy?

I was at happy hour with some girlfriends the other night and we all started trading stories about our parents; how they met, how long they have been together, etc. Well, all of a sudden, my friend stepped it up a notch and told a story about the first time she walked in on her parents having sex! Needless to say, that certainly sparked conversation and all the other girls chimed in.

One of the most fascinating events I watched during the Olympics — though not the most action-packed — was the men's 50-kilometer race walk. The route is more than 30 miles (that's longer than a marathon), and these guys were totally booking it; gold medalist Alex Schwazer of Italy finished in three hours and 37 minutes. The striding style is best described as jaunty: arms pumping, hips shaking, and feet always on the verge of breaking into a jog.

Most of us learned to walk when we were around one year old. We've been walking ever since, and quite frankly, I think we got it down. We're pros at the whole walking thing.

Dear Fit,
I'm trying to lose weight, so cardio has become a part of my weekly routine. When it was cooler out, I had no problem jogging 30 minutes, about four times a week. I live where the temps are in the 80s and 90s right now with a considerable amount of humidity, and it's been brutal jogging.

I have been telling you for a while how beneficial walking is to your health. Now that you've gotten used to walking for exercise, you may want to step (no pun intended) it up a notch.
An old favorite in Europe, Nordic Walking is catching on in the US.

Have you ever joined an exercise group or class only to realize everyone is at least 20 years older (or younger) than you? It definitely puts a damper on things, especially since most of us are more likely to continue an exercise regimen if we're enjoying it. I am not saying you can't hang out with people who are not in your age group, but when it comes to exercising it may be beneficial for some of us to stick with those in our own range.

Lace up your walking shoes tomorrow and join millions of Americans for Start Walking Day. The American Heart Association (AHA) is urging folks to start walking on April 8: walk to work, walk with your co-workers, walk your dog, walk with a friend, just walk and keep on walking. As a form of exercise, walking has the lowest dropout rate, and it's free.
