Car manufacturers have been holding on for dear life and coming up with creative ways to sustain their businesses during the recession. The economy has already driven major car companies to bankruptcy, and President Obama is close to signing a measure that would afford more Americans the ability to purchase new vehicles and hopefully prevent more damage to the auto industry.
The $1 billion "cash for clunkers" measure would provide credits to car buyers who trade-in their vehicles for more fuel efficient models.

President Obama is committed to waking up the trampled job market, and is implementing this goal via the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Various industries should see job growth as a result of the plan, and the jobs will come with salaries across the board. Can you guess how much stimulus-plan jobs will pay?

First the stimulus got a website. Now it's getting a logo. Without a doubt, the Obama team has brought its branding expertise from the campaign trail to the White House.

As if having to search for a new job after a layoff isn't enough stress, jobless workers must consider how they'll get health care coverage without their old employers' plans. COBRA, short for the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act passed by Congress in 1986, requires most group health care plans to provide a temporary continuation of coverage that an employee would typically lose after termination.
The downside to COBRA has been cost, but the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 calls for a 65 percent subsidy toward group health insurance premiums for laid-off employees.

The economy has been skidding and losing more jobs each month, but the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is designed to create jobs and eventually turn unemployment on its ugly head. The impact on employment will take some time because the exact allocation of these funds still needs to be determined, and the millions of jobs the plan is said to create will be spread over a couple of years. It took years of mistakes to get us into this mess, and we can't expect automatic miracles.

Taking on the three Republican senators who voted for the stimulus bill (along with all the Democrats) might be a good idea, according to RNC chair Michael Steele. On Fox News this week, Steele sent a warning shot to Republicans Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania. When asked if he would help their challengers in the Republican primaries, he said he was "always open to everything, baby, absolutely."

Games are a great way to give your brain a break from the workday, and there's a new one on the scene that might appeal to some of you. I'm warning you now that it has a pretty partisan nature — if you don't hand out $1 trillion in bailout funds the way the game wants you to, then you won't successfully "save the economy."
This political/economic game is called Trillion Dollar Bailout and gives players the control to dispense $1 trillion in government bailout money.

Yesterday fired-up CNBC reporter Rick Santelli laid into the president. He implored Obama to ask Americans whether they really want to "subsidize the losers' mortgages." The traders on the Chicago trading floor cheered for Santelli and booed at the mention of Obama's plan.

President Obama met with America's mayors today, promising to "call them out" if they spend stimulus money in a wasteful way.
The president told the Conference of US Mayors that he needed unprecedented responsibility and accountability. He said: If a federal agency proposes a project that will waste that money, I will not hesitate to call them out on it, and put a stop to it.
