Today is a historic occasion in California: Starting at 5 p.m. PDT, same-sex couples will be able to apply for marriage licenses throughout the state. Most courts and clerk's offices are staying open later to accommodate couples who've been waiting years to the knot, including Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon, who have been together for more than half a century.

Conservative columnist David Brooks wrote an essay in the New York Times yesterday about how technology is ruining love and sex for the youngins.
Although Brooks reaches this conclusion based on the testimony of some horndogs who agreed to be "online sex diarists" for New York magazine (he admits it's a pretty unrepresentative demographic), Brooks nevertheless believes their stories tell us something fundamental about love in the age of technology: it's allowed people to treat potential sex partners (and it's significantly limited to this) as if they were products on eBay.
Once upon a time — in what we might think of as the "Happy Days era" — courtship was governed by a set of guardrails.

A man after my own heart, Mike Fahey is a game addict. Currently helping to hold down the East Coast office of Kotaku, and ripping through game after game so you don't have to, Mike is a man of many hats. He's been everything from an arcade attendant (totally expected) to a vinyl sign cutter (huh?), but still, his love for games made him who he is today.

Freddie was the focus of this week's episode of Skins, where we got a closer glance at his family, and the things going on in his head. He's been the quiet, moral pretty boy so far, but I enjoyed getting an insight into his life. I can't wait to hear what you thought of this week's episode, but for now, here are some of my thoughts.

Keira Knightley's latest period offering, The Duchess, is finally released at cinemas across the UK today. We've seen the stars at the world premiere and attending radio interviews, and now it's time to see if the film lives up to all the hype. Although the poster carries the famous Diana quote — "there were three people in her marriage" — the film has nothing to do with her (as the cast and director told me when I met them recently) so that aspect of the trailer is for marketing and doesn't reflect the content of the film.

Dear E. Jean,
I’m an elegant, attractive, educated and well-spoken 37-year-old woman. After nothing but eight long years of dating horror stories, three months ago I met a really attractive, sexy, open, bright, educated, and interesting 40-year-old man who was well raised and comes from a very nice family.

Your Baby: How Old Is Your Baby
When conception takes place, it happens midway in your menstrual cycle or at approximately 2 weeks after your last period. When you calculate your due date, that 2 weeks is counted in the calculation, therefore your estimated due date will span 40 weeks (dating back to your last period), instead of the 38 weeks since conception.
Your Body: The ABCs Of Conception
Some women have no idea they've conceived at this early date, while others can tell the exact moment it happened.
