Rock the Vote Ads - New Christina vs. Vintage Madonna?

Christina Aguilera's much talked about Rock the Vote ad premiered yesterday and exactly as advertised it features her tender singing with a flag-swaddled Max in her arms. On Larry King Live last month, Christina talked about how her spot was inspired my Madonna's Rock the Vote ad from 1990, which has a decidedly different feel but the same ultimate message. Christina Wraps Her Kid in a Flag to Rock the Vote - Wrong?

New mom Christina Aguilera is politically active - and getting her son involved early - by appearing with him in an ad for Rock the Vote due out this summer. The message of the ad is great - but is the image chosen to trumpet the cause reason to sound the alarm?
Aguilera's son appears in the ad, swaddled in the American flag.

Aguilera said of her decision to make the ad, "This election in particular is such an exciting and historical one, and so I was proud to have my son and I stand together for such a powerful moment and message in time." Rock the Vote, which turns 18 this year, isn't a stranger to controversial imagery. Madonna made a similar Get Out the Vote ad in 1990 showing the Material Girl wrapped in a flag of her own. Is this just what's required to get the young 'uns attention?

Though this rule from USFlag.org is quite clear, "The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything," does the fact that she possibly did it to bring attention to the cause of voting make it less outrageous? Rock the Vote has given out 850,000 voter registration cards this year. Is that a good trade off?

I've never been much of a T-shirt gal, but with all this buzz around the 2008 presidential election candidates, I think it's important to show we're in the know through fashion. These Rock the Vote Tees ($44 each), are stylish enough for us fashion-conscious Fabbies. They come in bright and neutral colors, depending on your support style. Plus, they kind of remind me of the popular House of Holland fashion groupie tees. My fave is the Hillary You Go Girl Tee because it's sassy and smart. I wonder which one CitizenSugar would rock?

Yesterday in Hollywood, the 2009 American Music Awards took place, and all of the coolest entertainers came out to celebrate, present and perform. The red carpet was filled with international (not just American stars) like Shakira and Leona Lewis, decked out with beautiful hair and makeup. By far, the hottest trend of the evening was nude lipstick/gloss. Take a peek below at all of the girls and vote on who you think rocked the shiny, naked-looking lip best.

Announcing the Winners: 2009 American Music Awards

The American Music Awards show is over, and I've got your full list of who earned trophies. Following her big CMA wins, Taylor Swift dominated in the female categories, taking home AMAs for favorite artist in both pop and country categories as well as the top honor of them all: Artist of the Year.

Besides Ms. Swift, there were plenty of others who triumphed, like country act Gloriana, who pulled off a shocker of an upset with Breakthrough Artist over Lady Gaga. (Even Gloriana poked fun at the win, asking the audience to raise a show of hands if they didn't know who they are.) Michael Jackson won four posthumous honors, and his brother Jermaine took the stage with family members to accept on his behalf. I'll be going over all of the highlights from the show tomorrow - including some of my red carpet coverage and notes from the press room - so check back then! Robbie Williams released his new album Reality Killed the Video Star this week, and released the brand new video to his upcoming single "You Know Me" on Friday. The video has him dressed like a rabbit, and it got me thinking about the videos he's made that he doesn't entirely take himself seriously in!
