Stella McCartney Wins Court Battle vs Ali Hewson's Nude Brand

A couple of weeks ago, we heard that Stella McCartney and Bono's better half Ali Hewson were having a legal feud over the word 'nude' in their beauty products. It has been revealed today that the emergent injunction has been denied and therefore Stella can go on to launch her fragrance StellaNude as planned. For the time being (a full trial may ensue next year unless the two can settle), she officially owns the trademark on the word 'nude' in Europe.

Hewson's company, Nude Brands Limited has a trademark on the word NUDE (in capital letters) and wanted the courts to stop McCartney from releasing her perfume because she felt it was a direct infringement, and the similarity of names could potentially confuse customers.

However, the judge, Mr. Justice Floyd, ultimately decided that,

"The balance of injustice in this case requires me to refuse the injunction. It seems to me that, in this particular case, the likely damage to Stella McCartney Ltd. and L’Oréal if an injunction is wrongly granted outweighs the damage to Nude Brands Ltd. if it is refused. Whilst Nude may ultimately prevail at the trial, it seems to me that an injunction and damages at that stage, though far from perfect remedies, are more likely to be able to restore them to their rightful position than an award of damages under the cross undertaking to Stella McCartney Ltd."

Her banded Dolce & Gabbana is near nude perfection; her satin Very Prive Louboutins are insanely Fab. I have some classic nude patent Brian Atwood pumps that I always grab in a crunch. It's a worthy investment, but I recommend shopping for your nudes in the flesh to ensure a perfect skin match.

How To: Gillian Anderson's Dazzling Red Carpet Makeup

At the premiere of How To Lose Friends and Alienate People, actress Gillian Anderson looked gorgeously glowing. Her tousled hair looked healthy and shiny, while the natural makeup gave her a more sophisticated look than we've seen lately.

Gillian's makeup artist for the night was Paul Herrington, who is also Bobbi Brown's UK Head of Artistry. He aimed to create a "very natural, dewy finish." Paul told me "Gillian has naturally great skin, so I used just a sheer coverage foundation for a luminous, natural effect."

Face: Paul used a sheer foundation on Gillian's complexion for a dewy look. Try Bobbi Brown Luminous Moisturizing Foundation, (£26).
Eyes: Bobbi Brown Charcoal Eye Shadow, (£14), was applied to the lids and softly blended for a seductive effect. Paul says "I then applied a smoky liner around the lash line to define Gillian’s eyes and make them stand out." Use Bobbi Brown Black Long Wear Gel Liner, (£13.50), for a long-lasting smoky eye.
Lips: Lips were kept natural and glossy. Paul used Bobbi Brown Lip Liner, (£13.50), in Naked and then added a touch of Bobbi Brown Beige Lip Gloss, (£13), to give Gillian a fresh looking pout.

Will You Wear Nude Lip Colours?

The new makeup collections for autumn showcase a plethora of barely-there beiges and pink nudes to chose from this season. Bobbi Brown has an entire line entitled Shimmering Nude, whilst the Nars collection features glistening neutral lip colours with pared-down sheer formulations.

Already it seems that nude lips, whether matte, sheer or ultra glossy, will still be going strong next spring. At New York Fashion Week the models at Peter Som, (pictured), Mathew Williamson, Preen and Vivienne Tam all wore variations on the nude lip.

In real life, a nude lip colour can be tricky to wear especially if you're pale. Plus I have to admit that it can be time consuming to find the perfect neutral shade that looks both flattering and insouciantly effortless. Will you be wearing nude lip colours this season?

Bobbi Brown Shimmering Nude Collection

Bobbi Brown's latest makeup collection for autumn hits counters this week and we're all in for a treat. The Shimmering Nude line has been created for a subtle, yet seductive, effect. Think the nude metallic makeup looks that were all over the catwalk at Burberry and Marc Jacobs this season.

The limited edition collection combines the Shimmering Nude palette, (£40) and selection of creamy lip colours, (£14), which are infused with hints of pink and gold. The palette includes seven cool and warm nude shades that are designed to flatter all skin tones and if there's one thing Bobbi is famed for, it's her super-flattering and wearable colours. The combination of flat, sheer and strong shimmering tones illuminates the eye, whilst a dark matte shade works as a liner for extra drama.

Bobbi says “I love nude makeup – it’s especially sexy when it’s saturated with glimmering light-reflective flecks.”

The Pink Sequin lip colour is my personal favourite for innocent ingenue appeal, whilst the darker Pink Buff shade looks beautiful on olive or dark skin tones.
