Mommy Dearest,
I have a 4-year-old little girl who seems to fit into the stereotypes surrounding children her age; she loves princesses, makeup, and playing with baby dolls. In an effort to get her to branch out, I have signed her up for soccer with other boys and girls her age. At first, the playtime was terrific — boys and girls running elbow to elbow.

When I asked if your significant other shows his emotion well, the results were pretty evenly split, although very extreme — the men were either completely closed off or very in touch with their feelings. I was in born in San Francisco five years after Free to Be You and Me was released, but even in an era of everything goes, there were still the age-old stereotypes of girls favoring pink and boys liking blue. When it comes to gender, I'm trying to raise my kids with a sense that anything goes. If my son runs down the hall in my high heels and a few purses slung on his arms, so be it.

Certainly men have to deal with the occasional crabby pregnant wife and financial stresses of having a baby, but women are the ones who physically deal with the morning sickness and evolving body. Is it just me or does it seem like there’s a big gender divide when it comes to expectations about marriage? A middle-aged, unwed man is considered to have made a choice to remain a bachelor, while an unmarried woman of the same age is assumed to be desperately waiting for a man to rescue her! Though we’re lucky enough to live in a society that values women’s rights, it’s still inevitable to encounter double standards.

Sarah Hoffman wrote about her conflicting maternal instincts to encourage her 4-year-old son, Sam's self-expression and protect him from ridicule.
Her poignant article, The Pink Dress is in this month's Cookie Magazine.

In this day and age, office buildings are full of both male and female employees. While it's great to see so many hard working women in the work place, it's easy to get a reputation of being a b*tch vs. a hard working, powerful businesswoman.

Do you wear the pants in your relationship, or does your partner? A recent study proves that silence is golden but only for women. Jennifer Sellers, an assistant professor of psychology at Green Mountain College in Vermont, gathered 95 participants of equal parts men and women to view four videos of couples in conflict, some with a more dominate female, and some with a more dominate male.
