It's been said that trying someone's engagement ring on your left ring finger is bad luck for single women. Why? I'm not sure, but even though I know it's just an old wives tale, it's one superstition that I don't want to test!

That's the story spreading around the Chinese blogosphere, according to the New York Times. As the rescue efforts continue, the Chinese are going online and asking why the government ignored these warning signs.

In a letter to be auctioned off this week, Albert Einstein called believing in God a "childish superstition." He wrote:
The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish.
Einstein, a Jew who rejected the offer to be Israel's second president, also wrote in the letter that he does not believe that the Jews are the chosen people.

April Showers don't pour on everyone. Our lil team was chatting about our own baby showers and those we've hosted for expectant friends when one colleague and fellow mom confessed she'd never been to a pre-baby fete due to her religious customs. She said:
"Jews tend to be a very superstitious people, and while baby showers are not forbidden by Jewish law, they have long been considered taboo throughout our community.

Athletes do some kooky things before a big game: former Red Sox player Wade Boggs would eat chicken before every game, and during the 1998 World Cup, Laurent Blanc would kiss the head of his goalkeeper before each kickoff.
I might not be a professional athlete but I have my own little rituals before heading out on a big hike or climb. I fill up at least three water bottles and make a small tower of rocks at the beginning of my trail.

Due to superstition, there are mothers-to-be that don't allow baby gear to enter their homes before their children's debut. But, what happens when a girl is out shopping and spots a to-die-for limited-edition maternity frock or sees a gorgeous crocheted bonnet and booties for a future babe, should she buy it to stow?
