When improvising in the kitchen, I like to "eyeball" measurements, as Rachael Ray would say. But if there's one scenario when I like to be exact, it's baking. While I'm rolling out dough for anything from tarts to pizza to shortcakes, I prefer to be precise, because variations in size can have a significant impact on baking time.

If you've got an iPhone, here's a nifty tip that will instantly put a ruler in your hand.
Billy Chasen has ingeniously created a digital ruler that will fit your whole iPhone screen so it looks like you have a real ruler. All you have to do is add it to your pictures and sync it onto your iPhone (although don't try to do it online as the dimensions will be off).

Dogs aren't the only ones who enjoy some frozen goodness of the fruit or the peanut butter varieties. In honor of today's wriggly nosed ruler, I created a specially sweet treat for those silent creatures. They're yummy for bunnies' tummies but don't treat rabbits to too many — nobody likes a tubby bunny!

Buying a present for a one-year-old always seems a tad impersonal since the tot hardly acknowledges the gift. Give him something made with love that he can save throughout the years. It will keep mama from having to make a tough choice at the toy shop while keeping a few dollars in her pocket.
