Meet Malia and Sasha Obama, first children — and future gelato makers? While President Obama was in Rome, Italy, for a G-8 summit, the US embassy contacted the Italian capital's most renowned gelato parlor, Giolitti, to arrange an insider's ice cream tour for the commander in chief's daughters. At the historic gelateria, Malia, 11, and Sasha, 8, donned aprons to become frozen-dessert makers for the afternoon.

Valentino and Giancarlo Giammetti are not alone in feeling "terrible anguish" toward the devastating earthquake that shook L'Aquilla, Italy, on Monday. The destructive disaster has brought together a number of fashion industry people to help in the relief effort. Gucci and Blumarine designer Anna Molinari will be donating funds toward the recovery of the city while Versace plans on helping the victims in an "organic way."

Walking into the Wellness Zone at the Hotel de Russie in Rome, Italy, I was overcome with with the feeling of luxurious calm. The serene spa (you won't be able to talk on your mobile phone here) hosts treatment rooms, a comfortable reception area and an over-sized jacuzzi with built-in lounge chairs for the optimal 'chilaxing' experience.
They use and sell four different brands in the spa, namely Carita (a prestigious skincare line from Paris), Dècleor, Skinceuticals and their specialty treatments feature products from a coffee based lined called Body Coffee Brand.

Although, Torre Argentina is best known as the section of ancient Rome where Julius Caesar was murdered by Brutus (“Et tu, Brute?"), the archaeological ruins now host hundreds of stray cats. A Sugar staffer recently visited Italy's Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary and made this great video – tune in and learn all about these felines!

Tom Hanks is a persona non grata in all of the churches of the Vatican and Rome. The Vatican has banned the filming of Angels and Demons, Dan Brown's sequel to The Da Vinci Code because it is "an offense against God."
The head of the Vatican's Prefecture For Economic Affairs said: [The stories] turned the Gospels upside down to poison the faith.

The world must produce 50 percent more food by 2030, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told world leaders yesterday at a summit hosted by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome.
The UN leader urged nations to minimize trade barriers, and to produce more food. Pope Benedict XVI had a slightly different message, noting that the world already has the means to solve the problem.

Leave it to the folks over at the premium cable channels to come up with another fun marketing campaign. This time HBO has graced 100 Italian restaurants in LA, NY and Chicago with bottles of Rome wine. The cabernet sauvingnon, which is bottled in California, will be offered free to patrons.
