You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your family. This fact of life means that many of us put up with people we might not otherwise get along with.
Yesterday's New York Times examined what happens when certain family members, namely parents, cross the line from imperfect to completely intolerable.

The more I hear about Richard Heene, father of Balloon Boy, the more I'm frightened by the man. Before he and his family took over the media yesterday, Richard was busy starring in videos in which he comes off as hostile and misogynistic.
Here are my top five reasons this man is a jerk:
It's likely that he tricked the media and government officials into thinking his 6-year-old son Falcon was flying away in a balloon.

Are the tides slowly changing? Whereas just months ago we were commiserating about being our parents' tech support (not to mention guffawing over cartoon dads asking computer questions), it seems now that more and more parents are joining social networks like Facebook. My mom recently asked me if she should start tweeting, and she's dying for an iPhone, intrigued that her phone could do more than just make calls.

In a recent interview, actress Cameron Diaz discussed how her parents' 39-year-marriage contributed to her success. She explained:
"It's a bond that is so true, so pure, and so powerful, it is the most beautiful and inspiring thing that I have ever witnessed — the eternal love that my mom and dad shared. It was what has given me the strength and courage to live this extraordinary life and it is what powers the light that burns inside of me."

Whether they were set up by a mettlesome friend or collided at what they'd later call a "kegger," the story of how your parents met is unexpectedly endearing. Hearing how they once fidgeted on the shag carpet of a first date is as weird as it is comforting. So, tell us, how did yours go from strangers to mom and dad?

Most people I know get creeped out by the idea of their parents having sex (you probably thought "eeeeew" after reading that sentence). But some of the more freewheeling parents out there don't bother hiding their sexuality from their children.
Earlier this week on the Real Housewives of New Jersey, single mom Danielle spoke candidly about her love life with her young daughters.

This video from Current TV (the same folks who brought you that hilarious Twitter video), Your Dad Asks Computer Questions, is apparently "based on real computer questions from real dads." I've provided quite a bit of tech support for my family, though no one has yet asked me how to find Google. Yet.

New technology tends to skew our relationships with our parents, in that we often tend to become the experts, and they're the students. I've shared many cute stories with you about my parents learning to do new things with their computers, but the other side of that is that I've become my parents' de facto tech support.

Living on your own as an independent woman is something we all strive for, but what happens when you just can't afford to make ends meet? I know moving back into your parents house isn't ideal, but for some it's the only option. So ladies, tell me, if you needed to move home until you got back on your feet, would you consider it?

I don't think I've ever shared with you my admiration for Dr. Drew Pinsky, but I've got to say, he's one of my favorite television personalities — and let's be honest, he's pretty sexy too! While he is a physician first, he's made his expertise available to the public via Loveline, Celebrity Rehab, and now Sober House.
