I don't own an animal but thankfully where I live has great wildlife including deer (that love to eat all of my flowers on my deck), birds, raccoons and my all time favorite animal that I spotted was baby Western Screech Owls.

Halloween's tomorrow but the creatures of Bristol Zoo got their pumpkin treats a little early. These freshly carved jack-o'-lanterns were explored — and devoured — by creatures from raccoons to ring-tailed lemurs. Luckily for us, zoo photographers snapped the action before the pumpkin carcasses were properly disposed.

Society has long associated owls with intelligence and wisdom, while Native American tribes have viewed the winged creatures as protectors against harm and evil spirits. On a recent weekend stroll, my eye caught these ornate windows that look like wise owl eyes to me. I love unusually shaped windows, and think they can add so much charm to a building. Are your windows all squares and rectangles, or do they have some other figures and forms?

I know I told you that owls are trendy, but sometimes trends are taken a little too far. Well, at least that's how I feel about this owl accent rug. What do you think?

Owls flew into our lives a while back and it seems they're still lurking. Some are small and simple, while others, like this Rachel May Wood Owl Necklace, $99, are big and bold. I myself have a small gold owl necklace, but this one is a tad gaudy in my opinion.

I love the way the fashion world decides every few years to embrace the same delightfully random animal motif. A couple of years ago, it was birds; before that, butterflies. Now, for some reason, it's owls.

In a small study, self-described early birds and night owls had the strength of their legs measured throughout the day. While leg strength measurements remained steady for the morning people, the evening people's leg strength peaked in the evening — the night owls' central nervous systems were primed and ready for action around 9 p.m.
