If High School Musical was real (and I wish it was, it would actually have made for fascinating reality TV) at least one kid on the poster wouldn't be tossing any cap at all. High-school dropout rates now show one out of every four students not graduating, and 7,000 students drop out every day. Under new regulations for reporting announced today, schools will have to report graduation rates for all students — including minorities and students with disabilities, which have a dropout rate as high as one in three.

According to a survey released yesterday by Common Core many of the 1,200 17-year-olds who were called in January and asked to answer 33 multiple-choice questions about history and literature, didn't fare so well. Common Core is an independent bi-partisan group including members from the American Federation of Teachers, and a former assistant education secretary under President George H.W. Bush.

Look ma, no kids! Last weekend, mama got a break from pureed baby food, stinky diapers and bath time duty. The grandparents came to the rescue and watched my wee ones as I took off on a beach adventure with my hubby.

Antichrist, the film from director Lars von Trier (pictured here), has left the critics and screeners at Cannes shocked. About a grieving couple, Antichrist features scenes of sexual mutilation, horrific gore, and a child's accidental death. Many in the audience gasped, whiles others booed or walked out.

City living certainly has its advantages — a bevy of nice restaurants, concerts, theater, diversity, museums, and culture. But today I witnessed one of my biggest fears come true. As I sat on my bus into work, two teachers boarded with 30 sixth grade students in tow.
