For those of you that are fans of Max Factor's Lasting Performance Stay Put Makeup (RIP, old buddy), perhaps you might find somewhat of a replacement in Maybelline's new SuperStay 24hr Makeup ($10). The consistency, which lies somewhere between Revlon's ColorStay and Lasting Performance (see my comparisons here), skews more on the slightly creamy end of the spectrum, so it's quite easy to blend.
As for the wearability factor, SuperStay definitely delivers, although by the end of the day, I did have some slick spots in the t-zone.

In Motherhood, which comes out today, Uma Thurman plays Eliza, a Manhattan stay-at-home mom of two who is planning her daughter's sixth birthday party while trying to finish a parenting magazine contest entry on the topic "What does motherhood mean to you?" Small potatoes, right? The film takes place in one day, examining Eliza's cluttered life — the early morning rush of getting the kids ready, the dog, the apartments (she and her husband have set up shop in a bohemian one bedroom and studio), inability to do it all despite the pressure to be perfect, and quest to make it all mean something.

I've quickly become a fan of the show Nurse Jackie, but every time I watch it I am reminded that I wouldn't be a productive night shift employee.
It's clear some careers offer more appeal than others, and nursing is both rewarding, heroic and challenging, but just the idea of finishing the workday in the wee hours of the night and coming home to breakfast makes my stomach turn. I am sure I could train my body to function on a unique schedule, but don't think I could make the life sacrifices that go along with the unorthodox job.

I've had a love/hate relationship with Ayelet Waldman for some time, but the more I read her work and listen to her speak, the more I realize that my ambivalence is with the subjects she discusses more than it is with her: motherhood, work, feminism, and the idea of "having it all."
Waldman, whose husband is writer Michael Chabon, caused a bit of controversy a few years ago when she declared (in a rhetorically bold and questionable move) that she loved her husband more than her children. She said she wanted to contrast herself from the women in her circle she noticed were no longer sexually involved with their husbands because they'd subsumed their identities to being mothers.

Dear Savvy,
Lately I've been feeling frustrated about something at work and I would like your opinion.

The recession doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style — especially not when it comes to giving gifts to your mom. (Besides, you know you'll never hear the end of it if you seem cheap. Or is that just my mother?

I remember when I first saw the bumper sticker that read, "Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty." (Also a book.) I had two responses. The cynic in me: "Oh, give me a break.
