I've always admired friends who have their acts together enough to mail out cards with their new address. It's so civilized. Myself, I have a hard enough time labeling boxes when it comes to moving day!

I carried the same bedroom accessories and bedding with me to five different apartments. My living room décor tends to change completely with each move, though. My mother thinks it's a sacrilege not to redecorate with each move.

If you're moving across country, probably the most eco-friendly way to handle the move is to sell your things on Craigslist, and then buy furnishings in your new town off of Craigslist or at thrift and antique stores once you've settled. If you're just moving across town, there's no reason to get rid of your stuff. But the earth-friendly answer isn't to rent a U-Haul, either.

This Old House recently offered advice for parents whose adult children were moving back home due to the economy. While the post offered smart tips about transforming a home space to welcome a 20-something or 30-something back into the nest, I thought that it might be more helpful to CasaSugar readers to look at the issue from the perspective of the child, not the parent.
This is obviously a difficult transition for everyone, but there are some ways to make the move a smoother one.

When children come into the picture, it's nice to be near your loved ones so tots can bond with their relatives. I have been lucky to raise my children in our hometown surrounded by dozens of family members and lifelong friends. But, many people don't have the luxury of being close to their kin due to career or financial circumstances.

DearSugar and Needy in New York need your help. She has a great job in the fashion industry, but her boyfriend of a year and a half just asked her to move to Connecticut with him so he can attend his first choice law school. She loves him dearly, but isn't sure if giving up her dream job for the man she loves is worth the risk.

Dear Sugar,
I am currently dating my daughter's father. We had a lot of new-couple issues at first, but just as soon as I was sure we had worked through the kinks, I found out that he is going to move overseas for a year. I wanted to spend as much time as possible with him before he left, but it seems like he doesn't have the same desire.

Moving into a new house is stressful. You're finally cured of the headache of packing, and then it occurs to you that you still have to unpack! Then, something inevitably goes wrong.

Dear Sugar,
I just finished my master's in May and I still can't find a job. I am in the education field and I live on Long Island, where jobs are hard to find. My boyfriend and I have an apartment together, and he is working a lot to keep us afloat.

My boyfriend and I are in our 20s (I'm 23 and he's 25) and have been dating for four years. Although we have had our ups and downs, I am still crazy about him! He recently got a great promotion at work, but it comes with a big consequence: he has to move to London for six months to a year!
