While the typography trend continues to truck along, a new trend of decorating with letters, often consonants and syllables from vintage signs, has arisen. Personally, I find it kind of cheesy to decorate with initials — a big "C.S." on my wall is just not my style.

Director John Hughes, who passed away Thursday at age 59, made a big impact on those of us who grew up watching his films and crushing on his characters. But he made an even bigger impact on Alison Byrne Fields: he was her pen pal.
As she recounts on her blog, We'll Know When We Get There, Fields and Hughes sent letters back and forth between 1985 and 1987, after Alison poured her heart out to Hughes praising The Breakfast Club.

I really do love the vintage alphabet blocks I found last year, which would go perfectly in a little geek-in-training nursery. But since I'm not planning to add to my family anytime soon, I wanted to find a more grown-up, flashier alternative for my apartment. So when I stumbled upon these letters, I realized the missing component was — lights!

These Giant Orgy Letters ($1,800), which are actually Goodyear Tire sign letters from the 1940s, might give your mother a heart attack if you displayed them as-is in (or outside) your home. But, let's not do that, okay? For this challenge, I'd like you to tell me how you'd use the (ahem) excessively indulgent letters as décor without inflicting cardiac arrest on your relatives and neighbors.

I have a box of stationery that sits on my desk and never gets used. Aside from the occasional thank-you note, I never sit at my desk and just pour my feelings out onto a sheet of paper with pen and ink.
Everything important gets an email — which is also what the New York Times is saying this week, as well as questioning what happens when emails don't get received.

Amanda Seyfried's latest film Letters to Juliet looks like a mash up of her other work. First off, her character's name is Sophie, which brings Mamma Mia to mind, as does the romantic foreign locale. But even the title itself made me do a double-take — wait, isn't she already doing a book-turned-film about letters called Dear John?!

I have yet to meet a job hunter who doesn't dread writing cover letters. They're time-consuming and tedious, and unfortunately, they're unavoidable. It's easy to break cover letter etiquette if you're not careful.

What is it with Philadelphia and quirky outdoor art? On the heels of the new documentary In a Dream, about one man's giant mosaic memoir, comes Love Letter, a massive mural project by artist Steve Powers and the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program.
The visual love letter plays out across 50 painted walls along Philly's Market Street elevated train.
