I'm not so much a sportsy-follower and admit that I didn't know that Serena Williams is a Jehovah's Witness until she started talking about Barack Obama in this Slate piece, but I'm glad she did — this is fascinating stuff. Do you know why Jehovah's Witnesses tend not to vote? Passages like John 17:14 where Jesus says of those who follow him: "They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world."

It used to be we'd slap whatever the state handed us on our bumpers, but that's such efficient use of tax dollars. That all changed in 1977, when a family of Jehovah's Witnesses taped over the "Live Free or Die" part of their New Hampshire license plate, claiming it violated their free speech rights. The case went to the Supreme Court, which decided it was unconstitutional to force individuals, or their cars, to be "mobile billboards."

FDA Issues Labeling Changes for Drugs That Boost Red Blood Cells
In November 2007, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made several changes to the prescribing labels for erythropoiesis-stimulating drugs. These drugs -- epoietin alfa (Epogen, Procrit) and darbepoetin alfa (Aranesp) -- increase the production of red blood cells.

The country's most senior Muslim cleric has recently denounced birthday parties as an unwanted foreign influence, going head-to-head with another cleric who's said pony rides and cake are just dandy.
Under the strict interpretation, even modest birthday celebrations are "haram," or banned.
