There's nothing as rude and hurtful as a critical comment dressed as praise or a joke. The truth is no matter how they're brushed off, you know when someone's said something to intentionally put you down. Anger and embarrassment are natural reactions, but an article from November's O magazine offers some more productive ways of countering rude comments.

About two years ago, I entered a bleak time in my life and fell into a depression. Fortunately, I was able to make it through, and I feel much stronger today. However, at the time it was difficult to just leave the house, and I really distanced myself from many of my friends.

I’ve been fortunate enough to build a strong group of friends over the years, but in the process, I’ve encountered my fair share of people who were only out for their own gain. Of course as I’ve gotten older, it’s rare that I find myself in the position of being used by someone, but I’d be lying if I said it’s never happened before. And it’s always an unpleasant realization.

I just recently lost my virginity and my first time hurt a lot. I thought things would get easier after that but my boyfriend and I are still having difficulties. The subsequent 4 or 5 times we've tried having sex since have all ended up with me telling him to stop because it hurt so much.

Since I have a hard enough time watching shows like Animal Precinct or E-Vet Interns, I wasn't sure if I would be able to handle a book about a day in the life of an animal surgeon. Thankfully, I gave it a shot (how could I pass up the cutie pie smooshy on the cover) and the book was well worth it!

Following her shock departure from the jungle, Katie Price had another surprise up her sleeve last night, as she announced during her interview with Ant and Dec on I'm a Celebrity she has broken up with Alex Reid. She's not showing any signs of regret yet, as she tweeted late last night: "I feeeel sooo goood today".
Kate didn't explain exactly why she had broken up with Alex, other than saying she's done a lot of reflecting and said: "I think that it's best I'm on my own.

A couple of years ago, it seemed like toy recalls were being announced daily for choking or lead poisoning hazards. This holiday season, parents are being hit with major baby gear recalls. First Maclaren issued a voluntary notification that its hinges could hurt small fingers if a child's hands were holding on to the sides of a stroller during the opening or closing of it.
