The most recent story focusing on girls heading to the beauty parlor at younger and younger ages comes to us today from Lebanon, where requests for chocolate facials and purple manicures are becoming the norm. "It's not about spoiling our children," Maya Hilal, owner of Beirut's Spa-Tacular, told the AFP. "It's a matter of maintaining their cleanliness.

We've talked about this a couple times before, but now baby beauty pageants have moved across the pond, and it seems like Brits are willing to go to even greater extremes than their American counterparts. Baby Beauty Queens, a new BBC3 documentary, follows three girls who are part of the growing UK child pageant scene. One of the girls, at age 7, had plastic surgery to "correct" her ears (her story starts at about the 7:15 minute mark).

Getting your ears pierced in my grammar school was a huge deal. My mom finally let me puncture my earlobes with tiny gold studs when I was 10. I still remember what I wore to the mall and how my classmates inspected the jewels when I got to school.

In our image-obsessed culture, girls are grooming at younger and younger ages, making youth-targeted bikini waxes and toddler beauty pageants more and more common. Now, it looks like the disturbing trend of underage grooming is impacting the youth of India, as girls, and even boys, are making stops to the salon and spa more frequently. In fact, recent marketing studies imply that the hottest Indian beauty trends involve services targeted towards teens and tweens.

Girls will be girls. Whether you feel fine letting your daughter indulge in a mani-pedi from time to time or would rather her keep her young skin fresh and product-free, at some point you may have to just give in. Maybe it's Miley, maybe she's watched you apply mascara and lipstick before a dinner date, or maybe girly girls just love gloss.

Do you remember the first time you became interested in beauty products? While I played with peel-off nail polish and occasionally painted my mom's nails, it wasn't really until I was in junior high that I busted out the Bonne Bell and Rave hairspray. Anything beyond that just wasn't allowed via my parents' strict rules.

Easter Sunday is swiftly approaching, which means moms are running around searching for Easter baskets, eggs and goodies and pretty outfits for Easter photos. While I don't think children's fashion rules should be stiff, it is traditionally the date we are allowed (and encouraged!) to wear white again. Embrace floral prints, pastels and all things Spring with a youthful and fun look for your daughter that can withstand a chocolate smear and egg hunt in the yard.

Every week I turn to TLC for my Jon and Kate Plus 8 fix, but after a recommendation from BellaSugar I dedicated an evening to Toddlers & Tiaras. The documentary series follows different families on the quest for beauty pageant crowns and glory and sheds some bright lights on the realities of pageant life: rigorous training, painful hair and beauty regimens, and plenty of positive affirmations. It's sort of a modern day, reality TV influenced Living Dolls.

There was a good amount of discussion when I asked for your thoughts on beauty pageants. Most of you find them outdated, dippy, or sexist, but a few readers piped up to show support for them. No matter what you think about pageantry, you'll probably be fascinated by Toddlers and Tiaras, a documentary series debuting tonight on TLC.
