One Louisiana politician's brainstorm for stopping generational welfare — welfare recipients having children who also end up on assistance — is giving birth to huge controversy. The idea? Offering $1,000 to poor women to get their tubes tied.

Madonna's directorial debut Filth And Wisdom was screened in New York last night, and attracted a rather celeb-packed audience! Gossip Girl castmembers Chace Crawford, Ed Westwick and Taylor Momsen arrived looking smart for the event, and Ugly Betty stars America Ferrera, Vanessa Williams and Becki Newton also looked glam on the red carpet. Lindsay Lohan also posed for the cameras, sticking to the clothing colour of choice for the evening — black.

Here's the trailer for the upcoming Madonna-directed indie movie, Filth and Wisdom. I've been curious to see it as I watched the Queen of Pop herself directing the action outside a local pharmacy last year!

Backstage at Alexander Wang, the designer told me his inspiration for the hair and makeup was "sweat." Well, he couldn't have picked a more humid and rainy day to show.

Many of you were bummed to see Eugene go, and while I liked him as well, I knew he wouldn't be the next Top Chef.
His creativity couldn't cut it with the judges, but Eugene, who I spoke to yesterday on the phone with fellow booted contestant, Melissa, was optimistic about the experience.
Eugene is a unique guy: He worked his way up from dishwasher to executive chef with no classic culinary training, making him a role model for young chefs everywhere.

The idea of a reform school for girls seems to come straight out of a B-movie from the '50s, complete with stock characters like the naïve innocent, the hardened mean girl with a heart of gold who ends up plotting a way for them both to escape, and an evil warden who gets in their way. It's hard to believe that such a place could still exist.
Until August of this year, the notorious Beloit reform school for girls in Beloit, KS did exist, and the school, founded in the 1890s, only recently shut down because the state could no longer afford to house the remaining 21 girls to the tune of $200,000 a year.

Holy cash. The 10 highest paid corporate captains are raking in an astronomical amount of money, so much that it's difficult to conceptualize earning that much in one year. According to a new report from The Corporate Library, seven of the 10 made more than $100 million last year including salary and stock options.
