For Elizabeth Edwards, Resilience Means Sticking by Her Man

Elizabeth Edwards has hit the talk show circuit to promote her new book Resilience and to explain why she didn't leave her unfaithful husband John. On the Today Show this morning, she said of her husband's infidelity: "He made this one mistake."

Elizabeth isn't the only wife to stick by her cheating politician after he made her suffer public embarrassment. Hillary Clinton and Silda Spitzer made similar decisions to stay around publicly after their husbands chose to stray from them. Last week, New York's former first couple Eliot and Silda Spitzer went out on the town with smiles and handholding, as if the prostitution scandal that kicked Eliot out of power never happened. As for Hillary, her choice to stay with Bill has often been boiled down to a politically motivated decision, rather than one of love and forgiveness.

Elizabeth Edwards says that her marriage vows, the fact that she promised to be with John for better or worse more than 30 years ago, made her want to stick it out. NY Times columnist Maureen Dowd has a different take on why Elizabeth stayed: "She had put so many quarters in the shiny slot machine of their mutual ambition."

Favorite Political Scandal of 2008: Eliot Spitzer Is Client # 9

The race for CitizenSugar readers' favorite political scandal was scandalously close, but NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer's fall from power after sleeping with a call girl beat out Sarah Palin's teen daughter's pregnancy by a score of 34 percent of votes to 32 percent.

Former sheriff of Wall Street Spitzer ended up facing zero federal crime charges related to his paid-for trysts with Ashley Dupré as Client No. 9, but his crimes of the heart did cost him his job as governor.

Eliot made the headlines again this week, after commenting on his life as an op-ed columnist. While at Slate's holiday party, which went down at a former massage parlor called "Happy Ending," Spitzer said about his new gig: "It sucks. I used to be governor of New York." Well now ex-Gov. Spitzer can add this Sugar Award to his resumé!

Do You Still Care About Eliot Spitzer's Call Girl Ashley Dupré?

Reformed call girl Ashley "Kristen" Dupré has finally opened up about her experience with "Client No. 9," or as you may know him, former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer. While involvement with an illegal prostitution ring didn't result in any federal charges for the governor with a tough-on-crime reputation, it did cost Spitzer his job.

Taking us beyond her MySpace page, Ms. Dupré opened up to Diane Sawyer about her painful experience. The now 23-year-old says she didn't know Spitzer was the governor until the scandal broke on TV, that escorts differ from prostitutes because they offer more than sex, and that she felt connected to Eliot Spitzer's wife more than the man she slept with. The full interview airs tonight on ABC's 20/20 at 10 p.m. (EST).
