This I didn't know: Alaska has the highest gas prices in the US? Wow. The average up there in Klondike country is $4.63.

Last Summer the religious prayed for relief at the pump, lawmakers called for a 55 mph national speed limit to conserve fuel, and cash-strapped drivers chanted, "Drill, baby. Drill!" But today, oil goes for $40 a barrel, one-third of what it cost in July.

A survey of gas prices collected the numbers from gas pumps in 155 countries and placed the US as number 111, meaning prices are 45th cheapest out of the countries surveyed. The reason prices in the US have been comparably low is that taxes on gas have been kept to a relative minimum when measured to international standards. Some experts say that Americans are extra sensitive to hikes in gas prices because we've been spoiled by cheap gas in the past, and feel any increases more acutely than countries who are used to being taxed more.

Now more than ever, cutting costs is becoming a way of life. I know my drive up to the Napa Valley a few weekends ago cost me a bundle in gas – even though my car is pretty gas friendly – which in turn had me cutting corners the rest of the week to make up for the price of filling the tank. Of course, when it comes to North, I'll spare no expense if he needs something, however these days you may not find me adding a doggie perfume into my virtual shopping cart just for the heck of it.

Dear Sugar
I just got my driver's license and I end up driving my friends around a lot. Recently, one of my good friends got her's also, but she refuses to drive anywhere.
She'll say that she doesn't want to drive, or that it doesn't make sense for her to drive if I'm going to drive, too.

Preface: you don't need to have straight, blonde hair to do the brooch. That's merely a coincidence (and two Claudia Schiffers) you see. You do need to have an inclination to wearing a vintage style.
