Slipcovers are certainly a more affordable alternative to having your furniture reupholstered. But ready-made slipcovers rarely fit well, and store-bought slipcovers (say from Pottery Barn) can cost a small fortune, too. So if you've got sewing skills, sewing your own slipcover is a smart alternative.

This chair, which I spotted in a clothing store, is upholstered with something that practically everyone on the face of the planet — or at least the US — owns. Can you tell me what it's made of?

Hanging chairs are definitely a thing of the past. In 1968 we saw the debut of Eero Aarnio's iconic Bubble Chair and in the '50s and '60s hanging rattan chairs became à la mode. And though it's 2009, I'm definitely digging this Two's Company Hanging Rattan Chair ($424).

My grandmother was a painter and also a decorator, so she was very particular about the way her studio looked. Afraid her paints might ruin her studio floors, she painted them all black and then called in her friends for a splatterpainting party, purposefully painting her floors à la Jackson Pollock. This Urban Outfitters Painter's Chair ($298) is a bit like those floors, except much less inspired.

Su Casa member Pretty Little Things got this overstuffed burgundy chenille burgundy chair at a garage sale for only $50. She wants to integrate it into her awesome new apartment, but her "theoretical color scheme involves grays, golds, whites, neutrals, dark wood, no burgundy!" And aside from the color, she also finds the chair bulky.

In last week's episode of Gossip Girl, Chuck Bass's dining table and chairs caught my eye. Not only do they have a hip, contemporary style that's perfect for a young heir, but they're also very, very familiar. Wondering where you can buy them?

Aside from antiques, it's not often that I see a dining chair that's so outstanding and lustworthy as the Niki Jones Silhouette Chair ($407). The shape has beautiful proportions and such a delicate shape. Its form is based on classic French antiques, but has been updated with a high gloss lacquer.

Su Casa member RachelG decided to add her two cents to my decorating with yellow post and give an old book table and wicker chair a makeover with a few coats of sunny yellow spray paint. She put the two pieces in separate rooms, which creates cohesiveness throughout her home, not to mention adds a bit of zing! Want to see the furniture in the bright new shade?

In last night's episode of Gossip Girl, beautiful bamboo folding chairs were used for seating guests at Lily and Rufus's wedding. When it comes to folding chairs, this is probably the most chic design you'll come across. But they're also good-looking enough to use in your home, not just for when you're having a party or extra guests.

The Fin Armchair ($7,000) by Tshuka is upholstered and tufted in velvet and adorned with aqua and green feathers on a walnut frame. Meticulously made by hand, it's available in a range of colors. While I appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into an extravagant piece like this, I think it's too eccentric and frou-frou for my home.
