Anonymous in the age of celebrity and making artwork with social commentary while other artists cash in, graffiti artist Banksy has intrigued audiences with his art and identity since he began stencilling/vandalizing public property in the early '90s. (No official image of the guy exists!) Known for installing his own work surreptitiously in museums, Banksy helped mount a surprise exhibit in his hometown — Banksy versus Bristol Museum. The exhibit is supposed to be Banksy's way of thanking Bristol for giving his street art its first canvas.

If you read my roundup of alternative graffiti, you know about satiric, prolific, and pseudo-anonymous British graffiti artist Banksy, and also about Fred Radtke, the Gray Ghost, who has been painting over graffiti throughout New Orleans with gray paint since 1997. Although I lumped them both into one category of "alternative graffiti," the motivation behind it for the two is not the same. For Bansky, the medium is a venue for making political, cultural, and ethical statements, while Radtke considers his graywashing more of a public service, referred to as "Operation Clean Sweep."

A new work by artist Banksy appeared on a wall today in London. The mural shows a child raising a plastic shopping bag as a flag. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said he will have to force retailers to reduce the use of plastic bags if they do not take action voluntarily.

We've seen Lindsay Lohan's impression of Marilyn Monroe and now we've got a morph of Marilyn and Kate Moss thanks to renowned street artist Banksy. The pastiche of Andy Warhol's iconic portraits forms part of Banksy's current commercial exhibition at London's Andipa Gallery, but if you fancy the picture for your wall then I'm afraid you're out of luck — the screenprint sold for £96,000 at Bonhams auction house earlier this month. I wonder if Kate was interested in snapping it up for herself?

After the fun of polo with Harry and Kate at the weekend, it was back to official duties for Prince William yesterday. He opened the newly expanded Whitechapel Gallery, and joked that he is graffiti artist Banksy, saying: "I thought that this would be a good forum to bring it out. Any autographs I will do later."

Kate Moss had a busy day in London yesterday, spending some time at a Fine Arts college in Primrose Hill, and looking rather smart for the appointment. She arrived at Sadie Frost's house in North London with her man Jamie Hince earlier in the morning, looking a little more casual with her ponytail and orange jacket — which of her get ups do you prefer? A set of six portraits of Kate by Banksy were to be auctioned off last night, with estimates of £150,000 for the rare complete set, but unfortunately the prints weren't sold.

While Wednesday was all about shopping for Kate, yesterday she got down to business looking equally fashionable leaving a meeting at the Topshop offices with Phillip Green. Her work for Topshop is always in demand, but it's not just her designs that are so sought after — a Warhol-esque portrait of Kate by the artist Banksy is expected to fetch at least $146,000 at auction later this month. Despite the recession, Kate's stock keeps going up in value.

Kate Moss wrapped up warm but still bared some flesh at a lazy pub lunch in the Cotswolds yesterday. If love you Kate's look, head over to my girl FabUK to copy her style. The supermodel was taking it easy in the countryside with boyfriend Jamie Hince, following his 40th birthday party celebrations on Friday night.

Graffiti, the process of scratching, scrawling, painting, or marking images or letters in any manner on property, has existed since the Roman Empire, and has evolved into much more than simple scratch marks. Some people think of it as vandalism (defacing property), others as art, and for others it's a movement of its own. You can see from a recent CitizenSugar poll about British graffiti artist Banksy, the consensus is largely divided.
