Comedian Al Franken, who is currently running for Senate in Minnesota, phoned in this weekend's opening skit on Saturday Night Live, according to NBC insiders.
Both SNL and the Franken campaign want to downplay Al's involvement. Allowing a liberal Democratic candidate to write a piece critical of John McCain could make the network look bias.
