I knew I wanted to do something to help with Barack Obama's campaign. I feel very strongly that he will turn this country around, and I have been very discouraged with the way this country has been run the past 8 years. I wasn't really sure what I could do, but I knew I had to do something.

She is much more Religious Right then I like in Conservative politicians, but I still found her interesting.
The new wave of female firebrands striking fear into liberal America
Right-wing radicals are already pinning presidential ambitions on a mother-of-five from Minnesota who calls herself a 'fool for Christ' and condemns Obama as a socialist at the head of a gangster regime

NAIROBI, Kenya – Somali pirates attacked the Maersk Alabama on Wednesday for the second time in seven months, though private guards on board the U.S.-flagged ship repelled the attack with gunfire and a high-decibel noise device.
A U.S. surveillance plane was monitoring the ship as it continued to its destination on the Kenyan coast, while a pirate said that the captain of a ship hijacked Monday with 28 North Korean crew members on board had died of wounds.

I have canvassed four times now in my area and done one day of phone banking, and it has been such a wonderful experience! It's great to get to meet and chat with other volunteers on the same team and get each other psyched and pumped up (and, to be honest, crack political jokes knowing you have a friendly audience). The campaign office is full of hand-drawn signs, buttons and yard signs, a cardboard cutout of the candidate, and lots of food.

When in college, I was the President of a community service organization and we got involved with Habitat for Humanity. Since moving back home (middle of nowhere).. I just assumed there wasn't an active local chapter..

Hi everybody, I am new to this group but a friend suggested that I go ahead and put this bit of information in this suite. My cat Squishy and I are Red Cross volunteers at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. This is the hospital where the soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan are brought when wounded.

The holiday season isn't just about gift-giving — even while the budget may be stretched, it's also the time of year to give to charity. It's no secret that things are tight this year. The recession is changing the way we holiday shop, but is it also changing our philanthropic spirit of giving for a good cause?

TEHRAN, Iran – Iran has protested to an Oxford University college over a scholarship in memory of the slain Iranian student who became an icon of mass street protests sparked by the disputed June election.
In Tehran, a small group of hard-line women demonstrated Wednesday against the scholarship in front of the British Embassy. The women chanted "Death to Britain," the semi-official Fars news agency reported.
