Occipital-Nerve Stimulation More Effective Than Medical Management in Patients With Chronic Intractable Migraine: Presented at AAPM
By Emma Hitt, PhD
HONOLULU -- January 30, 2009 -- Occipital nerve stimulation (ONS) may be more effective than medical management in patients with intractable migraine headaches, according to findings from the first randomized trial of ONS in this setting.
According to the researchers, led by Joel Saper, MD, Michigan Head Pain and Neurological Institute, Ann Arbor, Michigan, 3% to 14% of patients with episodic migraine develop chronic migraine characterized by headache for more than 15 days per month.

Okay so Tuesday I met with the neurosurgeon and the clinical psychologist to receive final clearance to be one of the 150 people in the final clinical trial for the Occipital Nerve Stimulator (ONS) which is for people with chronic (intractable) migraine. If the results of the study are consistent with the previous trials then this device could receive FDA approve within two years and available to other chronic migraine sufferers. The ONS device is not a cure but a preventative measure to stop migraines in their tracks.

As evidenced in my holiday TV sneak peek, this week's episode of Grey's Anatomy puts the doctors on a fast track that starts on Thanksgiving eve and runs through New Year's Eve. As we all know by now, the Seattle Grace surgeons aren't always big on merriment, but the holidays are always the perfect time to bring out the truth in feelings and relationships.
Meredith bonds with the Chief while Mark learns that he has a teenage daughter.

Many of the benefits of pets — companionship, affection and so on — have been well known for centuries — even numerous ancient Egyptians cherished their companion animals. However, data gathered during only the last few years have shown just how significantly our health is improved if we share our lives with animals.
A study undertaken in 2002 by the Waltham Center for Pet Nutrition and United States Food and Drug Administration revealed that the heart rates and blood pressures of pet owners increased less when the individuals were presented with math problems to solve if their companion animals were present.

The Breasts
Inside a woman's breast are 15 to 20 sections called lobes. Each lobe is made of many smaller sections called lobules. Lobules have groups of tiny glands that can make milk.
