There are two major psychotic disorders; mood disorders and schizophrenia.
When a person experiences a severe disruption in mood or emotional balance, we call the problem a mood disorder (formerly called an affective disorder). When emotions show an all time low and we lose interest in life, we experience depression.

I am a college student and last year I was really depressed and had an eating disorder. I had to leave school because it got to the point where I just couldn't even get out of bed. I am now back in school (and better Smiling ) and getting ready to apply to grad school.

With the change of the seasons, it is a good idea to be aware of where we are at, and to take good care of ourselves. Here are some ideas about how to recognize and cope with the blues, SAD, or depression. It's a lot of information, so later in the season, I might break it down into one a day :) ......to keep the winter depression at bay!!!

You know, any other time and this would be disheartening news. Luckily, we're so deep into this recession that most of America already believes we're in a depression (which is quantified by a 10% or more economic decline), so that 1-in-5 fraction is reassuringly small. According to a Harvard economist, there is an 80 percent chance we won't be hobos by this time next year!

It is a very scary prospect but if president-elect Barack Obama is serious about admiring President Franklin Delano Roosevelt for how the latter dealt with America’s Great Depression, then America and the world may be in for some very ugly times indeed. This is because by the most reliable historical accounts, FDR managed to overcome the economic crisis of his day not by his Keynesian political economic policies (of governmentspending and extensive government funded public works).
