In a harsher economic climate, Starbucks’s green-and-white mermaid logo is about to become a little less ubiquitous.
The company, the world’s largest coffee chain, said Tuesday that it would close 600 stores in the United States beginning this year.

Boscov's files Chapter 11, to close 10 stores

After more than a week of rumors about bankruptcy and store closings, Boscov's Inc. made a not-so-surprising announcement Monday: It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and will shut down 10 underperforming stores.
"This will help us realize additional cost savings and operational efficiencies, and improve our financial base so that we can better serve all of our constituencies," CEO Kenneth Lankin said in a statement about the closing of 10 of its 49 department stores in six states.

Anderson is most famous for being incredibly dumb. Well, I guess that’s what she’s second most famous for. But dumb as she is, Anderson is still shrewd enough to know that she isn’t aging all that gracefully, at least by Hollywood’s definition.

David Beckham is upset at the closure of a greyhound race track in his native East London - because it’s where he had his first job.
The Los Angeles Galaxy star was employed as a youth at Walthamstow Greyhound Racing Stadium, near his birthplace of Leytonstone, but the venue is due to close after failing to make enough profit to cover costs.
The final race took place at the stadium on Friday - and Beckham is one of many mourning the loss of the famed racing grounds.

The U.S. Attorney's Office closed its investigation into Heath Ledger's accidental overdose death and will not enforce a subpoena against Mary-Kate Olsen, a law-enforcement source tells PEOPLE.
The probe was closed without any charges being filed.

Kanye West was the big finale to what's being called one of the most successful Lollapalooza Fests yet. He and Nine Inch Nails took the stage on Sunday to close out the music festival in Chicago, which is also Kanye's hometown.
There were over 75,000 fans each day of the three-day event, with musical acts playing on one of eight stages.

The Latin restaurant – inspired by her grandmother – opened six years ago.

know it's not celebrity related... but I had to share. Starbucks has announced that due to poor sales, they will have to close down a few hundred stores.
