WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration threw open the curtain on years of Bush-era secrets Monday, revealing anti-terror memos that claimed exceptional search-and-seizure powers and divulging that the CIA destroyed nearly 100 videotapes of interrogations and other treatment of terror suspects.
The Justice Department released nine legal opinions showing that, following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Bush administration determined that certain constitutional rights would not apply during the coming fight.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney did speak to members of Congress about the Bush administration's interrogation program in an effort to maintain support for the enhanced techniques used on detainees, Cheney's office confirmed Wednesday.
"Vice President Cheney was and remains a strong supporter of our enhanced interrogation program.

Joe Biden hardly brings the glamour and excitement to his ticket that Sarah Palin does to hers, but he surely warmed civil libertarian hearts at the vice-presidential debate when he forcefully denounced "dangerous" theories designed to "aggrandize the power of a unitary executive."
