Utah GOP governor is Obama's pick as China envoy

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama reached across the political divide Saturday and named Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, a potential GOP White House contender in 2012 and top John McCain supporter, to the sensitive diplomatic post of U.S. ambassador to China.

Conservatives have turned to Florida as the central front in their battle with the GOP establishment, but the battle for the Republican Senate nomination in Utah could emerge as the real Tea Party contest.
State Attorney General Mark Shurtleff’s exit from the race last week paved the way for other candidates to emerge.

BOISE, Idaho - A Utah music teacher killed while trying to prevent the crash of a bus carrying dozens of her students was hailed as a heroine.
Heather Christensen, 33, a woodwind instructor at American Fork High School, was killed Saturday night when the bus veered from Interstate 15 and rolled south of Pocatello, where the band had won a competition hosted by Idaho State University.
Christensen, of Spanish Fork, Utah, left her seat to grab the steering wheel after seeing the bus driver slump over, students and colleagues said.
