DAMASCUS, Syria, October 2 (UNHCR) – UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie called Friday on the international community not to forget the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi refugees who remain in exile despite a relative improvement in the security situation in their homeland.
Tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians have returned to their country from Syria and other nearby countries over the past year, but many more are unable or unwilling to return to a country still rocked by violence. As the Iraqi story has largely disappeared from global headlines, so has the plight of the refugees.

The request is familiar to American ears: "Bring them home."
But in Iraq, where I've just met with American and Iraqi leaders, the phrase carries a different meaning.

Jolie: Well I came to the region about 6 months ago, I first went to Syria because I work with U.N.H.C.R.

WASHINGTON: A foundation headed by actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt has donated $1 million (€740,000) for use in the relief effort in Sudan's war-ravaged Darfur region and neighboring Chad, where hordes of Darfurians are in camps or homeless.
The Washington office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees announced the donation Thursday and said it was to go to the UNHCR, the International Rescue Committee and the SOS Children's Villages, a nongovernmental organization.

In 2006, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt decided to pool their charitable contributions into one blanket foundation that could direct funds to the charities of their choice. In the past three years, The Jolie-Pitt Foundation has directed hundreds of thousands (sometimes millions) of dollars to such organizations as The Daniel Pearl Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, Global Health Committee, Human Rights Watch and Global Action for Children. Jolie and Pitt support the Jolie-Pitt Foundation in addition to the individual charities that they have either started or work in concert with, like Make It Right (in Louisiana), The Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation (in Cambodia) and the UNHCR (for which Angelina is a special goodwill ambassador).
