State officials ratcheted up their response to the swine flu outbreak Wednesday, with the governor declaring a disaster in Texas and the state acquiring more antiviral medication. Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention grew to 16 in Texas, .
The unusual form of influenza has killed one child in Texas, and health officials revealed at a press conference Wednesday that another toddler and a pregnant woman, both of whom are critically ill, are likely infected as well.

MIAMI - Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami say Hurricane Dolly has strengthened to a Category 2 storm with maximum sustained winds near 100 mph.
The storm center is about 30 miles east-northeast of Brownsville, Texas.
The eye will cross the coast near the Texas/Mexico border in a few hours.

So apparently the story I posted about Texas charging victims for rape kits wasn't true. This statement was released by the Attorney General:

Regarding recent story which contained misinformation and inaccurate statements
The Office of the Attorney General is committed to protecting and serving Texas crime victims.
Importantly, last year the Crime Victims' Compensation Fund has provided reimbursement for more than 8,500 sexual assault exams and sexual assault examination kits.

This week’s Life & Style has an article titled “Brad and Angelina try to be normal” which is all about their semi-settled life in a suburb of Austin, Texas while Brad films Tree of Life. They say that Angelina and Brad are fitting in well with the community and that Angelina drops off Pax and Zahara to daycare at 8am and picks them up again at 3:30. Six year-old Maddox attends the Lycee Francais School, which is another branch of the bilingual school he attended in both Prague and New York.

Texas officials are postponing all public high school athletic competition until May 11 because of the swine flu outbreak.

DALLAS (Reuters) - Authorities have now removed 401 children from a remote ranch in west Texas belonging to a breakaway Mormon sect linked to jailed polygamist leader Warren Jeffs, Texas authorities said on Monday.
Patrick Crimmins, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, said 401 children have been taken from the compound. He could not confirm local media reports that said all of the children had now been taken away from the ranch.

Ghosts in a Texas Housing development

I was asked to clear a housing development in Texas. The builders had purchased the land from a Catholic church to develop. It was near a town that was known for its racist and bigoted attitude.

Pop singer Aaron Carter was arrested for investigation of marijuana possession Thursday after he was pulled over for speeding in Texas, authorities said.
Carter, 20, the younger brother of Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys, was in jail in Junction, Texas, awaiting a Friday morning appearance before a magistrate, Kimble County Sheriff Mike Chapman tells PEOPLE.
Carter's Cadillac Escalade was pulled over for speeding in Junction at about noon on Thursday, said Chapman.
