What the CIA Documents Show
Yes, Virginia, enhanced interrogation works.
by Stephen F. Hayes
It's not very often that there is agreement between the leadership of the American Civil Liberties Union and officers at the Central Intelligence Agency.

After a summer of politics marked by esoteric phrases like co-ops and insurance exchanges, the newest kernel of ubiquitous arcana is the term trigger mechanism. This proposal, which is gaining momentum after President Obama's speech to Congress, would have any national health legislation include provisions allowing a government-run "public option" only if certain parameters are met in the future. "It's an obscure policy tool that isn't even written," reported the news service TalkingPointsMemo.com.

Obama's Injustice Department
The irresponsible Office of Professional Responsibility.
by Michael Stokes Paulsen
Government lawyers in the Department of Justice's Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) appear to have leaked to the press parts of a confidential--and classified--draft report concerning the actions of Bush administration lawyers. The report calls for state bar associations to investigate, and perhaps discipline, attorneys who provided sensitive legal advice to President Bush's administration concerning the legal limits of coercive interrogation methods against high-level al Qaeda terrorists.

Every time a Democrat senator has talked during the Senate hearings on Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor this week, I felt lousy about my country. Not for the usual reasons when a Democrat talks, but because Democrats revel in telling us what a racist country this is.
Interestingly, the Democrats' examples of ethnic prejudice did not include Clarence Thomas, whose nomination hearings began with the Democrats saying, "You may now uncuff the defendant."

Liberal media on life support
By: Noemie Emery
Washington Examiner Columnist
At the White House Correspondents’ dinner a few weeks ago, ‘comedienne’ Wanda Sykes wished kidney failure on talker Rush Limbaugh as his just desserts for critiquing her hero the president. But it was the audience that was really on life support, a situation rued by itself but by few not in the business, and a few developments involving the New York Times, the industry flagship, would quickly prove why.
On May 17, Edmund Andrews wrote a piece in the Times about how the mortgage meltdown and fiscal collapse of last autumn left him over-extended, facing foreclosure, and broke.

An open letter to my fellow law professors:
Last summer, I took part in a conference at which John Yoo was participating on another panel. It was a large event, featuring dozens of talks, and I hadn't been aware that Yoo was speaking until the night before my talk.
Still, I felt a stab of conscience at the idea that I was, in my own very small way, helping to lend an aura of respectability to Professor Yoo and his ilk by continuing to play a part in a horrible charade.

Did Torture Save Lives?
THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR PROTECTING US SHOULD DIRECT AN UNBLINKING, UNBIASED REVIEW.

"A democracy as resilient as ours must reject the false choice between our security and our ideals," President Obama said on April 16, "and that is why these methods of interrogation are already a thing of the past."

Through a series of supposedly random but arguably deliberate chain of events, America is poised to jettison 220 years of a free market system called capitalism, in favor of the tried and failed system of socialism. I and others are now starting to question how we reached this point.
Last summer, as McCain and Obama were in the midst of their campaigns to capture the presidency, a series of events dramatically changed the focus of the campaign from Iraq to the economy.

The real question about how Barack and Michelle Obama are being received on their Rolling-G-20-Summit/Euro-Tour '09 has nothing to do with how the Europeans treat them, but all about the American mainstream media itself: What infinitesimal nit will they find to pick about the new president's conduct abroad that can be blown up into a two- to three-day pseudo-international incident?
You know the sort of story I mean. We're not talking about serious systemic issues, such as the different perspective a country like Germany (with universal health care, generous unemployment benefits, and a highly unionized work force) might have on the need for a global stimulus when compared to the U.S., where the party Obama just turned out of office has proposed effectively privatizing Medicare.
