By TOMEK ROLSKI and JONATHAN KARL
MOSCOW, Aug. 20, 2008
Russia's foreign ministry today threatened to go beyond diplomatic protests in response to the signing of a U.S.-Polish deal to base part of an American missile defense system in Poland, which borders part of Russia.
The latest threat came after a top Russian general said Poland would risk a military strike if it allowed the base and as U.S.

GORI, Georgia - Russian armored vehicles rolled deep into western Georgia on Monday, quickly seizing several towns and a military base and slicing open a damaging second front in Russia's battle with Georgia. Other Russian forces captured the key central city of Gori.

Amid all the rah-rah hooplah of the DNC, the national news media have decided that the attention that should be turned toward Russia and it's aggressive tactics could wait until after Thursday.
Well, I cannot wait any longer. Russia is doing some crazy things right now and are very close to starting a new cold war and I'll be darned if our group wasn't warned/aware of it!

KHIMKI, Russia (Reuters) - Starbucks opened its first coffee shop in Russia on Thursday, two years after it won a legal battle to protect the right to its brand in the fast-growing Russian market.
"This is an important step for the company, and we are looking forward to being a part of every day life for Russians," said Cliff Burrows, president of Starbucks Europe, Middle East and Africa, as he opened the cafe.
The newest Starbucks in the worldwide chain of around 10,000 outlets is in the Mega shopping mall in Khimki, just north of Moscow.

The Nation
Katrina Vanden Heuvel – Wed Apr 15, 11:12 pm ET
The Nation -- As someone who has been close to Russia's leading opposition newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" for many years, it's a very important development that Russian President Dmitrii Medvedev gave his first print interview to that paper and its brave editor-in-chief Dmitrii Muratov. The interview, which took place a few days ago in the Kremlin and was published Wednesday, gives the paper much needed protection at a time when the economic and human rights situation in Russia is worsening. (Until now, the paper's main protection derived from the fact that former Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev is a part-owner.)
Not only is Medvevev's interview an important step for "Novaya,"but it may also tell us something significant about Russia's still-new President Medvedev.

Jessica Simpson’s acting career is going a lot better than I thought. She was actually in a foreign film recently. Not too shabby, right?

Somehow I didn't think this would go as well as people hoped.
I wonder how long Putin has been planning this, to coincide neatly with the start of the Olympics, which would conveniently divert global attention.
As I told someone yesterday, you can take the boy out of the KGB but you can't take the KGB out of the boy.
