I was one of 13 children raised by our father and three mothers in a fundamentalist Mormon community in Utah. The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) is not associated with regular Mormonism (LDS). FLDS followers practice the “Principle” of polygamy, which is now banned by the mainstream Latter Day Saints.

The allegations of abuse at the recently-raided polygamist compound in West Texas hit close to home for Ginnifer Goodwin, who plays one of Bill Paxton's three wives in HBO's Big Love.
Still, she's quick to point out, the show is fiction – and its main goal is "to entertain."
Dressed to the nines at Monday night's tribute to Yves Saint Laurent, Goodwin pointed out that her character's clothes – while dowdy – are a far cry from the Little House on the Prairie fashion sensibility shown in news footage of the renegade Mormon sect run by fundamentalist Warren Jeffs.

Marhaba is a 32-year-old mother of four from Yazgulam, a village in the mountains of south-eastern Tajikistan. Five years ago her husband left her, but he is not obliged to pay her any alimony or child support because her marriage, like many in Tajikistan, was conducted according to Islamic rites and was never officially registered. It is estimated that up to 30% of all marriages in Tajikistan are unregistered.

Editor’s note: Religion is among the most volatile and divisive issues in the world today. Yet there’s little serious investigation into why people believe, or why some will kill and die for their faith. Larry Beinhart, in his new novel, Salvation Boulevard -- and this series of articles -- is hoping to start a conversation about these issues.

DALLAS (Reuters) - Authorities have now removed 401 children from a remote ranch in west Texas belonging to a breakaway Mormon sect linked to jailed polygamist leader Warren Jeffs, Texas authorities said on Monday.
Patrick Crimmins, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, said 401 children have been taken from the compound. He could not confirm local media reports that said all of the children had now been taken away from the ranch.

Imagine that you lived in a society where 90 percent of the people were gay. You were straight, and you were quite happy that way.
You didn't want to change, and you didn't see yourself as "immoral," even though others labeled you as such.

Hello! Magazine has a new interview with hot French first lady Carla Bruni Sarkozy and I found myself impressed with the way she views the gossip press and journalists. She realizes that if she wants to use them for publicity for her projects she’s got to take the gossip that goes along with that.
