A recent survey (June 2009) of over 2,500 U.S. scientists shows that the scientific community has a very different view of God from society as a whole. Only 33% of scientists believe in "God" while another 18% believe in a "universal spirit" or "higher power". It's a poll so with a grain of salt...
WASHINGTON – The number of Americans who believe there is solid evidence that the Earth is warming because of pollution is at its lowest point in three years, according to a survey released Thursday.
The poll of 1,500 adults by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press found that only 57 percent believe there is strong scientific evidence that the Earth has gotten warmer over the past few decades, and as a result, people are viewing the problem as less serious.

Americans are paring down the list of familiar household appliances they say they can't live without, according to a new national survey by the Pew Research Center's Social & Demographic Trends project.
Microwaves, televisions and even home air conditioning don’t seem as necessary as they once did. In fact, we’re beginning to see them as luxuries
In the past decade, the public's luxury-versus-necessity perceptual boundaries had been moving in the other direction - the share of adults who considered a microwave a necessity was just 32% in 1996.
