Well, I've officially had my first expirience with watching opera in a movie theater; and I have to say that it was quite enjoyable. Of course, nothing beats the live show, but it was nice to be able to relax, in comfy clothes and watch a great opera. It was also nice to the enjoy views and sound of the best seat in the house for a price that, at the actual Opera, would leave you sitting...somewhere on Market St.

Choosing a recording of an Opera to buy is very difficult. Unlike popular music or even Broadway, there could be hundreds of recordings of the same Opera. I've figured out a fairly full proff way of figuring out which are best.

Brokeback Mountain is coming to an opera house near you.
The New York City Opera commissioned Charles Wuorinen to compose a show based on the 1997 short story — which was turned into the 2005 Oscar-winning movie starring Heath Ledger (who died in January) and Jake Gyllenhaal.
The opera is scheduled to debut in 2013.

Norma is a tragedia lirica or opera in two acts by Vincenzo Bellini with libretto by Felice Romani after Norma, ossia L'infanticidio (Norma, or The Infanticide) by Alexandre Soumet. First produced at La Scala on December 26, 1831, it is generally regarded as an example of the supreme height of the Bel canto tradition.
The title role is generally considered one of the most difficult in the soprano repertoire.

I’ve never really known anyone heavily or remotely into Beijing opera, but if you are, this is the hard plastic case for you.
It makes a statement about a unique artistic interest, and you’re not blowing your money on a common version of protective cover for your iPhone 3G/ 3Gs.

Last Friday at night I went to the opera to watch "Madame Butterfly" by Puccini (wonderful by the way, a must-see). Normally I don't go to the opera very dressed-up, but this time as it was a really good play I decided to borrow one of the dresses of my mother. Anyway it was a rainy and windy day, so I wore a black cardi that made the outfit more casual and more appropriate to the bad weather.

Here's another one from Degas. This is another that takes a unique point of veiw. In fact, one that I've never seen in any other work, and I've seen quite a few paintings (correct me if you know of one).

so according to rumours, Andrew Lloyd Webber is writting a sequel of The Phantom Of The Opera and Gerard Butler and Hugh Jackman are the top contenders for the role at the theatre.
Who would make the best Phantom in the sequel for The Phantom Of The Opera?
Gerard
Hugh
Other -- who?
