Time for Americans to grow up
By Melanie Scarborough
Examiner Columnist | 9/29/08 6:07 AM
Today, alarmingly few Americans would laugh at Ponytail Man. Remember him? During one of the 1992 presidential debates, he asked a question as ridiculous as it was pathetic.

Right-wing women rock
Looking at the shoes tells a lot about a female's political persuasion
By IAN ROBINSON
The recent election of Danielle Smith as leader of the Wildrose Alliance reminded me that among the many things I love about the libertarian/right wing are the women.
Could be our slogan: Come for the culture war ...

There's nothing racist about opposing the president
David Harsanyi | September 16, 2009
C'mon, everyone knows the hullabaloo surrounding President Barack Obama is bigotry in action. The administration's policy initiatives couldn't possibly provoke any authentic anger or protest.
Proving this dastardly motive, on the other hand, has been problematic.

Does God Favor an Unlimited State?
By Mark Tooley on 9.8.09 @ 6:07AM
The Religious Left sacramentalizes nearly every proposed expansion of the Welfare State, with government-controlled health care its favorite sacrament. Supporting arguments are usual superficial: Jesus loved the poor, therefore the state must displace all other human institutions and provide every human need.

Flags flew at half-staff this week in California's state Capitol. No, not for Michael Jackson. For Private First Class Justin Casillas.

But it won't be a problem for rich guys like Obama. He would just pay for his loved one's care out of his pocket. As for the little guy, well, that's just tough luck.

Soft Tyranny
By Paul Greenberg
After touring Jacksonian America in the1830s, Alexis de Tocqueville would write a wide-ranging, eloquent and still highly relevant analysis of "Democracy in America," the title of his masterwork. But he was interested in more than the America of his time. He was also intrigued by the future of democracy in America.

Socialized Medicine on Display
By Hal G.P. Colebatch
Latest news in the exciting saga of Britain's socialized medicine is that a nurse, Margaret Haywood, aged 58, has been struck off for the crime of exposing neglect and mistreatment of elderly patients at the Royal Sussex Hospital on a television program. It was found that because of this: "It would not be in the public interest for her to be able to practise as a nurse."

I ran across this article, and thought it might prompt some interesting discussions.
I've said for a few years now that the women's movement of the 1970's ultimately did us no favors; it just overburdened us with impossible workloads and insane expectations, and made us feel we should be grateful for them.
This is a bit long, but is a quick read.
