Hilary Duff will start in her own TV series on NBC, reports Variety.
The deal with NBC also will have the 21-year-old singer/actress meet with writers and choose which current NBC shows to guest star in.
NBC Entertainment exec VP Teri Weinberg said they signed the Duffster because she has a “huge following”.

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - NBC News will cut about 1% of its work force, or about 15-20 jobs, throughout the division.
Final decisions haven't been made, but the cuts likely will start Friday and continue through the middle of next week.

NEW YORK - If "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno is having second thoughts about surrendering his job as planned, NBC doesn't share them — at least not publicly.
"Conan O'Brien will take over `The Tonight Show' in 2009," NBC Universal President and CEO Jeff Zucker said Monday in New York at an event arranged by Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

The late Tim Russert's son, Luke Russert, is joining NBC, it was announced on Thursday. The 22-year old Boston College graduate has been assigned to cover both the Democratic and Republican conventions focuising on "youth issues".
''Never before in an election cycle has so much attention turned to the youth vote, and Luke will bring a unique perspective to covering it,'' NBC News President Steve Capus said in a statement.

NBC is putting the kibosh on "Heroes: Origins" -- and the possibility of a strike contributed to the decision.
Net has indefinitely shelved production on the planned six-episode spinoff of its Monday hit. Skein -- which had attracted heavy hitters such as Eli Roth, Kevin Smith and Michael Dougherty ("Superman Returns") -- was set to unfurl later this season while "Heroes" was on hiatus.

When Maria Shriver became the first lady of California, NBC decided that it was in their best interest to cut ties. The network is said to have paid Shriver between $100,000 and $1,000,000 over the last 3 years. And since she has only worked one time for NBC since 2004, this seems like a pretty good gig.

NEW YORK - Michael Douglas has a new role on TV five nights a week.
NBC chose the 63-year-old actor-producer as the announcer to introduce Brian Williams on the "Nightly News" each night. His recorded introduction was first heard Monday.
