New 'Iron Curtain' will split EU's rich and poor David Charter in Brussels
Eastern European countries gave an apocalyptic warning yesterday of hordes of unemployed workers heading west as a new Iron Curtain divides rich from poor inside Europe.
Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Western leaders were told yesterday that five million jobs could be lost in the “new” European Union countries of the East unless radical action were taken to bail them out.
The spectacular collapse of some of the post-communist tiger economies led to demands at an EU summit in Brussels for a rescue fund of €190 billion (£170 billion) to stop social collapse in the Eastern nations spilling over into the rest of Europe.

Deficit of Courage
By Joseph Lawler on 12.19.08 @ 6:08AM
In recent Newsweek article, German finance minister Peer Steinbrück criticized the recent stimulus measures proposed by UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, remarking, "The switch from decades of supply-side politics all the way to a crass Keynesianism is breathtaking."
Brown wasn't pleased. But no one took the barb more personally than the self-appointed champion of Keynesianism, the Nobel laureate Paul Krugman.

NAIROBI, Kenya – Somali pirates attacked the Maersk Alabama on Wednesday for the second time in seven months, though private guards on board the U.S.-flagged ship repelled the attack with gunfire and a high-decibel noise device.
A U.S. surveillance plane was monitoring the ship as it continued to its destination on the Kenyan coast, while a pirate said that the captain of a ship hijacked Monday with 28 North Korean crew members on board had died of wounds.

Old-style 100-watt light bulbs will be banned in Europe's shops from next week in favour of new energy-saving models, but consumers groups have given the move a guarded welcome.
Old-style 100-watt light bulbs will be banned in Europe's shops from next week in favour of new energy-saving models, but consumers groups on Wednesday gave the move a guarded welcome.
From September 1, 100-watt versions of the old incandescent bulbs will be banned from Europe's shops and other bulbs with lower wattage will follow in the ensuing years, under a system agreed by EU experts last December.

The year unfolded largely without incident. As summer gave way to a crisp fall and then winter, more complaints rose about the cost of tending to the orc camps, but both Terenas and Arthas expected such. Arthas continued to train with Uther.

Conservatives racing ahead in EU parliament voting
By CONSTANT BRAND and ROBERT WIELAARD, Associated Press Writers Constant Brand And Robert Wielaard, Associated Press Writers
BRUSSELS – Conservatives raced toward victory in some of Europe's largest economies Sunday as initial results and exit polls showed voters punishing left-leaning parties in European parliament elections in France, Germany and elsewhere.
Some right-leaning parties said the results vindicated their reluctance to spend more on company bailouts and fiscal stimulus amid the global economic crisis.
First projections by the European Union showed center-right parties would have the most seats — between 263 and 273 — in the 736-member parliament.

The World Won't Wait On Washington Indecision
A Commentary By Tony Blankley
On three fronts -- South Korean trade, Ukrainian/Russian diplomacy and Afghan war fighting -- the Obama administration is being increasingly pressured by unfolding events to shed ideology and rationalizations and come quickly to a realistic analysis of world events and their consequences. In each of these cases, in the absence of very prompt United States policy decisions and actions, we shall incur long-term irreversible economic, geopolitical or national security harm. I will discuss the Afghan war decision in a future column.

I generally have a strong stance on Capitalism being the best economic system in existence. However, now and then I think it's good to question this, especially when I see things like this, which don't help to proove my point. Basically, most countries on this list are the most capitalist nations in the world- with Hong Kong having the biggest gap, and being the "most Capitalist." I do believe that Capitalism is good for the whole, that it does not cause the rich to get richer, etc. But this shows that the rich are just taking over all of the wealth in these nations. What are your thoughts?
