AUSTIN SCAGGS
You and Michael were born in the same month, August of 1958. What was it like to witness a kid your age do what he did?I was madly in love with him, totally smitten. He was mind-bogglingly talented.

The wife of a rich man fell sick, and as she felt that her end was drawing near, she called her only daughter to her bedside and said, "Dear child, be good and pious, and then the good God will always protect you, and I will look down on you from heaven and be near you."
Thereupon she closed her eyes and departed. Every day the maiden went out to her mother's grave, and wept, and she remained pious and good.

Once upon a time in the middle of winter, when the flakes of snow were falling like feathers from the sky, a queen sat at a window sewing, and the frame of the window was made of black ebony. And whilst she was sewing and looking out of the window at the snow, she pricked her finger with the needle, and three drops of blood fell upon the snow. And the red looked pretty upon the white snow, and she thought to herself, would that I had a child as white as snow, as red as blood, and as black as the wood of the window-frame.

Lately, my husband and I have been watching VH1's take on the 100 Greatest Songs of the 1990's and enjoying reminiscing and being reminded of songs that we had forgotten (or just hadn't heard in a long time!)
And, of course, that got me thinking: Has VH1 put together a top 100 list for the 1980's? They certainly had and I've spent today perusing it and constantly going, "I forgot about that one!"
So, do you agree with the choices for the 100 Greatest Songs of the 1980's?

In shelter work, we see many people and situations come through our doors. One of the biggest issues is that most people don't know what to do, or what to expect when they find a 'stray' cat, dog, ferret, dove, tortoise, tarantula, etc. Yes, we have seen at least TWO stray tarantulas since I've been there!

One Foot in Eden
So, not to be a massive dork or anything, but this honestly may be the best book I've ever read. It takes place in a teeny tiny town in Upstate South Carolina. The way Ron Rash describes the woods and the people is so beautiful it made me want to cry.

Tessa once again stared into the dark water of the lake, this time too stunned to keep her mind from racing. Martin stood beside her, so still she almost forgot he was there; she now wished he wasn't.
Tessa knew Martin longed for her to say something, anything, but she wanted to wait until she could respond rationally.
