NEW YORK - Caroline Kennedy told New York Gov. David Paterson on Wednesday that she is withdrawing from consideration to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate, New York media reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed sources.

Caroline Kennedy withdrew from consideration for the U.S. Senate seat once held by her slain uncle, Bobby Kennedy, after a night of turmoil and uncertainty over her intentions.
"I informed Governor Paterson today that for personal reasons I am withdrawing my name from consideration for the United States Senate," she said in a one-sentence statement released after midnight.

While not mentioning his cancer diagnosed earlier this week, a contemplative yet outdoorsy looking Sen. Edward Kennedy said Thursday it was "good to be home" at his family's place in Hyannis Port, calling Cape Cod "the best place on earth."
In a video aired in Boston and then shown nationwide on CNN, Kennedy also acknowledged the "incredible amounts of wonderful notes and letters from friends and colleagues in the Senate, as well as from people here in outpouring of support," which he called "very uplifting and touching."
