GENEVA – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused the West of using the Holocaust as a "pretext" for aggression against Palestinians, prompting European diplomats to walk out Monday from a speech disrupted by jeering protesters in rainbow wigs tossing red clown noses at the hardline leader.
A U.N. racism conference on the eve of Israel's Holocaust Remembrance Day disintegrated into chaos moments after Ahmadinejad became the first government official to take the floor.

Ten day ago, I posted an article about the imminent promotion of President Nicolas Sarkozy's son to manage France's wealthiest business district and how it was drawing howls of protest and derision due to the fact that:
- Jean Sarkozy is only 23 years old,
- He is only a second year law student
- He clearly wouldn't be considered if his name "wasn't Sarkozy".
And now, my friends, after 10 days of relentless and heavy protests and sarcastic comments by the majority of the people (for example, we suggested that Louis, the third son - only 10 - might be a credible option to succeed Ban Ki-Moon at the head of the United Nations), I'm very pleased to say that...

PARIS — The imminent promotion of President Nicolas Sarkozy's son to manage France's wealthiest business district drew howls of protest and derision Monday over the 23-year-old's meteoric political rise.
Opposition politicians accused the president of nepotism and charged the "Sarkozy clan" was tightening its grip on the "treasure chest" of La Defense, a district west of Paris where top French firms are headquartered.
Dubbed "Prince Jean" by the press, undergraduate Jean Sarkozy is in line to replace the minister for economic recovery, Patrick Devedjian, as chairman of EPAD, the agency overseeing office development in La Defense.

ISLAMABAD – A suicide bomber disguised as a security officer struck the lobby of the U.N. food agency's Pakistan headquarters Monday, killing five people a day after the new leader of the Pakistani Taliban vowed fresh assaults, authorities and witnesses said.
The blast raises questions as to how the bomber managed to evade tight security at the heavily fortified World Food Program compound in the capital, Islamabad.

The United Nations is planning a form of diplomatic shock therapy for world leaders this week in the hope of injecting badly needed urgency into negotiations for a climate change treaty that, it is now widely acknowledged, are dangerously adrift.
UN chief Ban Ki-Moon and negotiators say that unless they can convert world leaders into committed advocates of radical action, it will be very hard to reach a credible and enforceable agreement to avoid the most devastating consequences of climate change.
As the digital counter ticking off the hours to the Copenhagen summit – which had been supposed to seal the deal on climate change – hit 77 days today, progress at the UN summit in New York is seen as vital.

What do Obama and Susan Rice propose to do about this?
Truly, I had plans to write this week about something other than the United Nations. But over at Turtle Bay, here they go again.

SEOUL, South Korea — A barrage of ballistic missiles that North Korea test-fired over the weekend may have included a new type of a Scud with an extended range and improved accuracy that poses a threat to Japan, a South Korean newspaper reported Monday.
Pyongyang launched seven missiles into waters off its east coast Saturday in a show of force that defied U.N. resolutions and drew international condemnation.

Darfur protest: 5 congressmen arrested outside Sudanese Embassy in Washington
By Rebecca Cole | Washington Bureau
April 28, 2009
WASHINGTON -- Five members of Congress and three humanitarian activists were arrested Monday on civil disobedience charges in front of the Sudanese Embassy in Washington for protesting "crimes against humanity."
In attempting to draw attention to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir's handling of the Darfur region, the protesters called on Bashir to reinstate 16 aid organizations he expelled or shut down last month in response to the International Criminal Court issuing a warrant for his arrest.
Several also called on President Barack Obama to pressure the international community, including China, a major trading partner with Sudan, for a solution to the violence in Darfur.
