Moviemaker Steven Spielberg is following in the footsteps of Brad Pitt by donating $100,000 to a campaign to keep gay marriage legal in California. How great is that?!
Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw donated the money to the anti-Proposition 8 campaign, which helps activists oppose a state vote to ban same-sex marriages.

Christina Ricci was so disturbed by the marketing campaign for her movie Black Snake Moan, she became an activist for rape victims.
The 28-year-old actress starred in the 2006 drama as Rae, a sexually abused girl desperate for male attention.
But when she saw herself appearing on film posters posing seductively in a navel-bearing top and revealing shorts, the actress was prompted to step up her involvement in the Tori Amos-founded organization RAINN (The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network).

Activists place masks on Rome statues
An environmental activist group has claimed responsibility
for placing anti-pollution masks over the mouths of about
150 statues in Rome under cover of night. Activists with
environmental group Terra! said the masks -- which were
found Thursday morning on statues including the likenesses
of Roman emperors near the Colosseum and magistrates
surrounding Rome's Palace of Justice -- were "protesting
together with activists" to raise awareness of carbon
dioxide emissions from automobiles, ANSA reported.

Neither side appears to be letting up in the Hayden Panettiere versus Japanese fisherman controversy that began last month, when the Heroes star participated with others in a confrontation with the fisherman during a dolphin hunt.
The situation was exacerbated Thursday, when an arrest warrant was issued in Japan for Panettiere.
Later that day, the actress-activist, 18, told Access Hollywood in a statement: "Obviously this issue has generated defensive behavior on the part of both the Japanese authorities and fishermen."

When she was running for governor of Alaska in 2006, Sarah Palin reportedly said that even if her then-14-year-old daughter were raped, she would "choose life" and force her to bear a child. Comments like that that have endeared the fiery Alaskan politician to most pro-life voters, who lionized her for not aborting her Down's Syndrome baby. But Trig isn’t enough to protect Palin from a phalanx of anti-abortion activists who plan to protest her appearance on Thursday to promote her book in the conservative heartland of Indiana.
