If you're planning a romantic escape to Britian this winter, you can skip the oysters (and other aphrodisiac foods) at the grocery store - and head straight to the medicine aisle.

UK supermarket chain Tesco plans to sell OTC Viagra pills, starting next week, at half the prescription price in 300 of its stores.

To get the Viagra, men 40 to 65 will be required to see a pharmacist, provide a brief medical history, and have their blood pressure, cholesterol levels tested.

The price? These little blue pills will cost lovestruck Brits £52 per packet, which converts to about $81 - or about 10 bucks each.

About the same price as an arrangement of flowers. (Also available at Tesco.)

Drug Companies Develop Pill For Premature Ejaculation

While women await drugs to help boost their libidos, pharmaceutical companies have developed pills that help aroused men wait a little longer.

Priligy, a new drug developed by Johnson & Johnson, is designed to help men who experience premature ejaculation (PE) last longer in bed. The pill, on sale in nine countries, awaits approval from the FDA before it can assume its rightful place in popular culture alongside Viagra. Meanwhile, other drug companies are developing similar anecdotes to early male orgasms.

One drug company rep explained to the New York Times: "PE is more prevalent than ED (erectile dysfunction). One in three men actually have the condition." But, as one psychiatrist points out, if one in three men ejaculate "early" is that really a disorder that needs a drug treatment? Either way, I guess it won't be too hard to find a spokesman!

Are Prescription Drug Ads More Harm Than Help?

Chances are you've seen more prescription drug commercials than you can count - Viagra, Cymbalta, Celebrex, and Yaz are just a few that I can name from memory. The ads are pervasive and influential and pharmaceutical companies know that. From 1997 to 2005, drug companies tripled their spending in television ad campaigns from $1.3 billion to $4.2 billion. In 2006 that number bumped up even further to $4.6 billion.

Though the ads do inform consumers of what's available to them, health advocates say they present drugs and symptoms in very general terms and can confuse consumers into thinking they have something they don't. A national study found that one-third of all Americans have asked for a drug they saw on a commercial and of those that asked, 82 percent were given a prescription of some sort.

Viagra Without a Prescription?

A British pharmacy chain called "Boots" is celebrating Valentine's Day with a bang. They're going to begin a trial program offering men Viagra without a prescription.

The program is going to run for 6 months at 3 of their pharmacies, and after that, they'll decide whether or not to expand it to their other stores.

Men between the ages of 30 and 65 will be required to see a pharmacist, provide a medical history and have their blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose levels tested. It's a way for men to try it out, but if customers want a refill, they will be required to see a doctor.

Well, we should have seen it coming. Plan B is offered over-the counter, so why not Viagra?

Goldie Hawn Returns to Acting For The Viagra Diaries

Move over Kate Hudson, because your mom is about to step back into the spotlight. Goldie Hawn is set to star in The Viagra Diaries, a new half-hour comedy for HBO. Sex and the City mastermind Darren Star is writing the script, which is based on the book by Barbara Rose Brooker. Hawn will star as a 65-year-old woman plummeted into singledom when her husband ups and leaves her. Believe it or not, this is Hawn's first role since The Banger Sisters (2002), but she seems like a perfect fit for this part (and as a devoted fan of movies like Overboard and The First Wives' Club, I'm welcoming her back with open arms). Are you excited to see Goldie back in action?
