It seems like some men just don't know how to be subtle anymore. While I find confidence and assertiveness attractive, a presumptuous and overly cocky man just makes me cringe. After reading an article about the new VH1 show, "The Pick-Up Artist" it made me realize that the days of going out with your girlfriends, just to catch up without being bothered by men are long gone.

This new show teaches 8 unlucky in love men how to gain self confidence in order to turn the women of their dreams into the women of their reality. It's an eight week boot camp to compete for the title of "Master Pick-Up Artist" aided by Mystery, the head honcho, and his wing men, Matador and J Dog. While it seems pretty astonishing that some men have a difficult time mastering the art of the pick up line since it is second nature to oh so many, ladies, tell me, what is the worst pick up line you have ever been thrown?

Girl Crush du Jour: Alison Brie

Adorable. No word better sums up actress Alison Brie. And while I am sure the 26-year-old would prefer a more sophisticated adjective, she does play Trudy Campbell on Mad Men and ain't nothin' more sophisticated than that. Combine that with her success as the strung-out community college student on NBC's Community, and how I could not be crushing?

Other than radiating ebullience in real life, Alison, who says she's rarely recognized on the street, seems nothing like either character. She grew up with hippie parents in South Pasadena, CA, where she still lives and showed up to a Pasadena Weekly interview in a "Die Yuppie Scum" t-shirt.

But Alison's not as innocent as she or her characters look. She told Pasadena Weekly: "I don’t know why people see me . . . like I’m all prim and proper, when I couldn’t be more different. People think I come off that way, but I’m not.”

She's right. In this 2007 skit, she dishes it right back to the Internet's most infamous yogi, The Underminer, when he asks her to be in his variety show that's like "Curb Your Enthusiasm meets You Can't Do That on Television." Namaste! Watch it below.

Back in the day when I watched waaay too much television, I couldn't even justify it by saying I was watching the good stuff. If anything, I watched the worst television had to offer. Take Cheaters, the reality television show hosted by smarmy Joey Greco.

The premise was simple. Tail some guy or gal who was stepping out on their significant other, show the horrified cheatee the video evidence, and ask the wronged person what they wanted to do. The magic words I longed to hear? "I want to confront him." In this clip, Joey works his magic as he leads this poor woman into a blow-by-blow account of her boyfriend's cheating, accompanied by his transparently fake concern for her. In one infamous episode, Joey got his: a cheater actually stabs him, and they aired the episode! Ah, the good ol' days. Bring back Cheaters!

These days, you can't turn on the television without catching some oddball reality show. Some folks love these programs, others disregard them as "trash," while I just consider them crazy fun. From the untouchable Tyra to those kooky Kardashians to Sleeza Tequila, the idiot box lives up to its name. These characters will do whatever it takes to increase their ratings, but which show should be crowned the craziest of 2007?

TV Showing More Violence Against Women

I typically avert my eyes when graphic scenes flash across my television screen, so it boggles my mind that violence is such a celebrated form of entertainment. A new report from the Parents Television Council suggests that the prevalence of violence on TV is getting even more disturbing. The report reveals that violence against women and teen girls is up 120 percent, while violence shown on television general has raised by only two percent in recent years.

Questions remain about the conservative group's study. For example, it doesn't precisely define what it considers "violence." Still, the results cannot be completely ignored. Showing more examples of violence against women could desensitize viewers and make it appear more acceptable.

The Parents Television Council is calling for more government regulation against such violence on TV. Do you support that, or should viewers censor what they watch themselves?

Forget The Hills, New DC Show Covers The Hill

Just when the Murphy Brown reunion on the Today show this week got me all nostalgic for good political TV, it looks like my wish is coming true - reality-style.

The production company behind Miss America: Reality Check (which just aired this winter on TLC) is casting hot young DC residents for a new "soft-scripted" show, a la Laguna Beach - swapping the beach bunnies for a cadre of sexy non-profit Appropriations and Budget Associates. Or something similarly dot.org-y.

Though DC might not be as hot as Laguna, rest assured they're going to juice it up full of jet-setting plot lines. And since the casting is coming straight out of the hot and fast networking site Late Night Shots it won't comply with that old rumor that "Washington is Hollywood for the ugly."

I'm in, a thousand times in. I just have three questions: When, when, when?!
