Rebellion Is So Mainstream: Teens Look to Parents For Sex Advice

Oh, teenagers, always amazing us with their rebellious ways. But in the case of sexual role models, teens are getting really hipster on us by looking up to the last people we expected them to look up to - their parents. A study has found that teenagers' sexual behavior is most influenced by their parents, more than friends and celebrities.

The research showed 45 percent of teens take sexual advice from mom and dad, compared to 32 percent listening to friends and 15 percent from celebrities. Young adults seem to be more responsible than we believed. So maybe parents should be spending more time talking to their kids about sex and less time wagging their fingers at celebs for being bad role models. Penn Badgley already plays the least messed-up, and consequently most boring, teenager on Gossip Girl, and this week he'll morph into an even younger teen in the high-school comedy Easy A.

New York magazine asked the 23 year old what he'd like to go back and tell his 17-year-old self, but he had nothing to say. "I believe you have to make your mistakes and deal with the consequences and learn from them," he said. "Looking back, the things you cherish as you get older are often the things that made you cringe then."

Teen Quits High School Rather Than Stop Cross-Dressing

16-year-old Jonathan Escobar of Kennesaw, GA, was told by his high school to dress "more manly," so the teen who expressed himself by donning wigs and wearing makeup decided to drop out rather than put up with the dictates.

I think Jonathan looks like an eccentric Hitchcock heroine, and I don't see how this is any different from a teen dressing up goth or emo. (Would they get away with telling a butch girl to dress more feminine?) What do you think about the school's claim that he was causing a commotion with his looks - are they being too conservative about gender?

Do you gals remember Sassy? Before Teen Vogue there was Sassy, a late-eighties teen mag about feminism, celebrities and girl culture. What set Sassy apart from other magazines at the time was its honest voice and too-cool attitude - although some say this blase attitude contributed to its demise in 1996.

Almost twenty years later, New York writers Kara Jesella and Marisa Meltzer have written a "love letter" to Sassy in their book How Sassy Changed My Life: A Love Letter to the Greatest Teen Magazine of All Time, $13.

It is a behind-the-scenes look at the magazine's office culture, its coverage of feminism, celebrities and girls' problems. It also highlights struggles with advertisers, publishers, religious conservatives and other detractors.

If you missed the Sassy boat or have (foggy) fond memories, this book allows us to see where our rebel sisters and cousins were getting their advice from in the 80s heyday!

What's the Story With Girls' Clothes After They Outgrow Toddler Sizes?

Clothing manufacturers seem to divide girls' clothing into three ages: Infant (up to 1 year), Toddler (1 to 6 years - pretty old toddler at 6, huh?), and Junior Skank (first grade right up to college). As you can see, I'm not a fan. When my daughter was 2, 3, 5, I was able to select her clothing from a wide variety of affordable and age-appropriate choices. Sometimes it was a little hard finding something plain that wasn't encrusted with butterflies/fairies/legends reading, "Daddy's li'l princess." But with a little effort, I could find stuff that was cute and right for her.

But these days, unless I'm willing to shell out for expensive stuff like Hanna Andersson and Naartije, I'm having trouble finding clothing that looks like it's made for actual little girls. OK, I was a 15-year-old once. I get the appeal of super-short shorts, which are just made for legs that haven't yet grown cellulite. I used to leave the house and roll my skirt up too.

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Add a Peabody Award to Their Trophy Case

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan were among the honorees at yesterday's 71st Peabody Awards in NYC. The pair happily accepted the bronze award on behalf of the groundbreaking documentary they produced, Earth Made of Glass. Backstage during the show, Jenna talked to reporters about the film, saying, "It's nice to be recognized for a project that we feel we're really proud of . . . I think it has a great message, and it's nice just to get that awareness out."

This could be the first of many trophies for Channing this year. In addition to six Teen Choice nominations for his work in The Vow and 21 Jump Street, he's also up for multiple MTV Movie Award nominations including best kiss, best male performance, best fight, and best cast. Channing's hot body is also getting lots of recognition in the latest Magic Mike trailer. His hot dance moves and shirtless scenes are a hit with fans, and he's quickly rising the ranks in this year's PopSugar 100. Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise met up with a group of friends in Baton Rouge yesterday. They checked out fun animal statues and played in a park during the sunny afternoon. Katie and Suri are back in Louisiana while Tom Cruise films Oblivion, though he's already started switching gears to promote Rock of Ages. He was shirtless on the cover of W and chatted with the magazine about how Katie and Suri encouraged him to take the musical role. His costar Julianne Hough has begun press as well and was a presenter at last night's Billboard Music Awards. Their movie hits theaters on June 15, kicking off an exciting Summer that also includes the Teen Choice Awards, where Tom is nominated for best actor in Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

Channing Tatum held onto his wife Jenna Dewan's hand as they made their way through LAX yesterday. The couple were heading out of town after an exciting week. Channing's new Magic Mike trailer dropped, featuring even more shirtless and sexy moments from him and his costars Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, and Joe Manganiello. The guys also posed for the cover of Entertainment Weekly, though Channing was solo for his spread in Out magazine. All of the promotions are leading up to the movie's June 29 release date, but the stripper role isn't the only one putting Channing in the spotlight. He's nominated for multiple Teen Choice Awards for his work in The Vow and 21 Jump Street.
