Good Idea or Bad Idea: Going to a Strip Club With Your Man

I was out with friends earlier this week, and one of my buddies couldn't stop talking about all the couples he saw when he went to a strip club for his friend's bachelor party - I guess he was surprised by the number of women there. Though I'm not a fan of strip clubs myself - I just feel so bad for the women that are being objectified - I know many women who enjoy going with their significant others. Perhaps they like to keep tabs on their men, or maybe they genuinely enjoy it - whatever the reason, to each her own! What do you think about visiting a strip bar with your significant other? Do you think it's a good way to understand the male point of view, or do you think some things are meant for guys only?

Cute Alert: The Calico Cat Cafe in Tokyo

Who needs strippers, lap dances, or the company of pretty women (or men) at hostess/host bars when you can crawl around a café on all fours petting cute cats? The Calico Cat Café in Tokyo allows you to do just that. For a mere nine dollars an hour, you can come in and have tea and a little feline company. There are rules, of course. Kids who are younger than fifth graders aren't allowed in. You can't touch a cat if it doesn't want you to (just like a strip joint!). You can't wake sleeping cats, and you can only feed them what the café supplies. Whoever decides to open one of these in the United States is going to make a killing - and I will be the first crazy cat lady in line with crisp bills in my hand.

Stripper, 44, Charges Age Discrimination

~~Exotic dancer~~ Stripper Kimberlee Ouwroulis filed a complaint against a ~~Gentleman's Club~~ strip joint in Toronto because she claims she was let go due to her age. She started stripping at 40 after a nasty divorce, was doing well monetarily, and had regular customers. But one day, her boss said, "Your time is up here." (Click here for her account.) I don't doubt that there were customers who preferred her looks and age, but I also don't doubt that stripping is mostly a young woman's game. What I find incredible is the hysterical conversation that comes up over this in this Fox News clip. First, anchor Megyn Kelly gets wished "Happy Birthday" and says, "Thankfully I'm not yet 44!" (Isn't that a tad inappropriate given the subject?) Then, the Fox News legal analyst says that if Ouwroulis's boss merely made "just one remark, that's not discrimination." Ummm, wha? "You're too old, scram!" isn't discrimination? I didn't go to law school, but that doesn't sound right. What does all of this bring up for you all? About stripping? Age? Fox News? Etc.? Sound off in the comments below.

News to Me: Male Strip Clubs Just For Women

As it turns out, strip clubs solely directed at women are all the rage in Moscow these days according to Reuters. And these aren't just for bachelorette parties or fiftieth birthday celebrations. Women are heading to clubs for any old occasion, including your average cocktail hour. Interestingly enough, the article states:

Unlike the female version, male striptease rarely involves full nudity. . . . club workers say sex is not a priority for the women.

I find it fascinating that the notion of a strip club solely for women in Moscow is an everyday occurrence, while here in the US, it's something most women have never experienced, let alone frequent on a weekly basis. Perhaps if social norms were different here, more women would be spending their free nights at the local strip joint for a nice martini and a lap dance. Would you consider visiting strip clubs - outside of novelty occasions - if it was more socially acceptable?

Dear Sugar--

What would you do if your husband spent $1,400.00 of your joint money that was to be used to pay off our credit card debt on a stripper at a club for 3.5 hours!? I am not anti-strip clubs by any means, but the fact that he used our money makes my blood boil. I love my husband and this was an isolated incident, but I am just sick with anger and I don't know what to do with it. Please help! -- Pissed off Pamela

Wow, I have to tell you I would be beyond pissed too. $1400.00 is a lot of money to waste at a strip club especially when it's shared money meant to go towards your bills. Get your anger out and let him have it - tell him how inappropriate it was to spend money and how it made you feel to know he spent it on other women. Just because you aren't anti-strip clubs it doesn't mean you don't have a right to be furious. There's a time and a place for them but clearly this instance wasn't the time or the place.

If you weren't in credit card debt, I would tell you to go out and treat yourself to a new, expensive handbag and ask him how it feels to see where you are spending your joint money. Since that obviously isn't the responsible thing to do in this situation, you might want to think about opening a separate bank account. If you put your portion of expense funds into an account that he doesn't have access to, the next time he has a wild hair he will only be able to waste his own money - not the both of yours. Even if this was an isolated incident, I think it's important for your husband to know there are consequences to his actions. I wish you luck Pamela and hopefully your husband has learned his lesson.

When will the bacon-scented product madness end?! I love bacon as much as the next gal - probably more than the next gal. But the idea of getting into my (imaginary) hot car after Funky Bacon Car Air Freshener has been stinking up the joint with its faux hickory-scented pig strips is enough to make me give up sunny side up eggs, home fries, and bacon for good. (Wow. Never mind. That sounds so good! I take it all back.)

Georgia Town Spends $1 Million to Buy and Close Strip Club

What's more important than upgrades to a water treatment plant? Flushing smut down the drain. Lavonia, GA officials scraped together a million bucks to buy the local strip club, Café Risqué (ooh la la) and not because they wanted a side business for a little extra cash. They bought the sucker so they could close it right down.

The mayor received a standing ovation when he announced the deal - and then promptly showed he meant business by having crews rip down the highway signs advertising the joint and burning them in a huge bonfire (talk about a Red Light district.) The town had been trying to get rid of the club for years, and not until they spent the money that could have gone for water treatment upgrades and bought the place could they circumvent court rulings that said nude dancing was a constitutionally protected form of expression.

The town now has an ordinance outlawing adult entertainment businesses. Was the $1 million well spent? Do you suppose it was all in ones?

YouTube Baby Food Threats Get New York Man Arrested

Anton Dunn, a 42-year-old New Yorker who also goes by the name "Trashman," has ended up in jail after he posted numerous videos claiming that he helped poison millions of Gerber baby food containers. Wearing a black mask, Dunn said that upon his request Gerber employees contaminated the baby food with cyanide, getting him closer to his goal of killing infants.

When authorities apprehended Dunn they found no evidence that he actually did anything to baby food. Now he faces charges of sending threats and falsely claiming to have tampered with a consumer product. He also faces a maximum sentence of five years for each count.

This story reminds me of the possibly-illegal strip joint calling itself a performing arts center as a legal defense - should the law treat a threatening YouTube video as art? Free speech? Terrorism? While it's responsible for law enforcement officials to address disruptive threats, they would have their hands full if they tried to go after all the crazy stuff on the Internet.

Another Stripper Bites the Dust

Who manufactures and installs these lame stripper poles? There's now a whole new genre of video that shows hard-workin' pole dancers practicing their craft at home, only to have the poles collapse by the end of their routines. Since this is happening so much, just to spice things up, they could incorporate a comedy routine into their shows at the strip joints where they work. A kind of Lucille Ball meets Jenna Jameson type thing.
