September Must Haves!!

I hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend!! Just because summer is technically over, it's not quite time for winter yet so I am here to offer you my list of must haves - must do's for the month of September:

Treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure with some girlfriends. It's still warm enough outside to wear open toes shoes, so make the best of the time you have left!

Buy yourself a copy of Alice Sebold's Lovely Bones. It's a tearjerker, I know, but in 2008 it's being made into a movie so don't miss your opportunity to read the book first.

If you are jonesing to take a trip with your significant other, get into the spirit of the changing seasons and head to New England! September signifies the opening of apple season so make reservations at your favorite Inn and spend some time outside while the weather is still on your side.

If you're a mom, take advantage of your kids being back in school and treat yourself to an afternoon at the spa - I'm sure you could use a nice long massage!

Before the temperature dips too much, buy yourself a feminine, thin scarf that acts as more of an accessory than a winter necessity.

British Woman Receives Life Sentence For Smuggling Heroin

Samantha Orobator's saga continues. Orobator, a 20-year-old British woman arrested in Laos for smuggling heroin and tried in a country where drug smuggling is punishable by death, has just been sentenced to life in prison.

Officials in London and the Laotian capital of Vientiane agreed to a prisoner transfer last month, but it won’t take place, according to a representative, until the sentence is finalized with no appeals. Human rights lawyers and British officials worked on Orobator's behalf, which must have paid off because the amount she was carrying would otherwise have gotten her the death penalty.

Orobator got pregnant in prison but denies that she was raped. Her baby is due in September, and although she evaded death and will hopefully be in a British prison soon, what a tragic fate for such a young woman and her child.

Source

Group Therapy: Who Should Call?

My friend and I have been friends on and off for six years. She has dated two guys also on and off for eight years. She dates one and then breaks up with him. The other will be there for her and then they'll date. It goes back and forth like this for months, with each relationship never lasting more than a year. She has moved in with both of them at different times, moving in and out of a house for a total of six times. I was there all six times helping her.

Meanwhile, I dated a guy for four years straight. We broke up almost a year ago. I hit rock bottom, and my friend was never there for me, leaving me to go out of state to see her boyfriend. When I asked her if she could help me move out of my ex's place she asked if I could do it on my own. We went to a baseball game, which I paid for, and she invited her boyfriend at last minute. I got drunk and said some bad things, but I don't know what exactly they were. The next day I texted and said I was sorry. She responded that we needed to talk.

I'm OK with talking about what was said and what I did wrong. It will hurt, but it must be done. I have asked her three times to meet up and talk this out, but each time she says, "Next week. I'll let you know." The game was back in May, its now September. Do I let her call me when she wants to or do I keep trying to arrange a meeting? What should I do?

Football season starts this weekend, so you might want to know that men think sex is better after their team wins!

October Must Haves

Although it seems like just yesterday that I told you all my September must haves, I am back with the latest and greatest things to get and do in October!

Pick up knitting! It's beyond relaxing and once you get the hang of it, you can start knitting gifts for the holidays - there's nothing better than a homemade gift.

Have a pumpkin carving party. Make a night out of it and serve a fabulous fall colored cocktail.

Clean out your closet and make room for some new Fall clothes.

If you have already read Jon Krakauer's Into the Wild, be sure to see Sean Penn's adaptation of the best selling book in theaters now.

Take a Sunday afternoon to walk your dog, walk with your best friend, or hubby and take in the crisp Fall air. If you're lucky enough to live where the seasons do change, take in the beautiful Fall foliage as well.

Who's the Boss?

Dear Sugar
My employer is taking advantage of me, and I need some serious advice. I work for a family child care facility (a daycare at someone else's home) and the lady that I work for is always bailing on me the second I step in the door. I have been there since September, and every day that I have come into work she has left for hours on end. Sometimes, I have been left with six to seven children by myself.

My boss has already caught the attention of some parents that have noticed her desertion of her business. In fact, one parent even called child services reporting that my boss is not there 80% of the time which is illegal in this business and that phone call did nothing to make her more present.

She has recently hired me for a full time schedule. I am a mother, a wife, and am currently taking classes for childhood development which start in two days. I can not afford to quit my job, and I love working with the children, but I don't know how to continue working for a woman I don't respect. Do you have any advice for me? Picking up the Slack Penny

To see DEARSUGAR's answer read more

Dear Picking up the Slack Penny
Yikes, this woman sounds extremely selfish and in the wrong profession. Spending your days with children is such a rewarding job so I am sorry you are feeling conflicted about your work. Taking care of seven kids on your own is no small task so I completely understand your frustration with this woman.

Have you confronted her about how overwhelmed you are? Did child services take any action against the claims that she is absent at work to ensure a positive change? You definitely have your hands full right now so getting help at work is a must.

If your boss isn't willing to pitch in, might you suggest getting another employee to help manage the heavy load? Since this woman is your boss, unfortunately, she is entitled to do whatever she wants. Ultimately, you will have to decide if your frustration is manageable or if you will be better off working at a different childcare facility.

Contouring Your Clavicles

Dear Sugar
I am getting married in September and am wearing a strapless wedding gown. As everyone knows, when you wear strapless, the main focus is on shoulders and your clavicles (collarbones.) I am wondering if you know of any make-up secrets or products to help enhance clavicles.

I am not into the large particled sparkle look, but something with a great shimmer and sheen would be ideal. I know there must be a way to bring out my clavicles by shading and coloring or the use of different products. Sexy Shouldered Sheila

To see DEARSUGAR's answer read more

Dear Sexy Shouldered Sheila
Since you still have a few months before your wedding, I would try and do shoulder exercises. Delt raises, and rowing exercises to make your shoulders look stronger and more angular and cut. This will also help bring out your clavicles.

As far as contouring the area, try using your foundation all the way down your neck. Don't go as far as your clavicle, but to mid-line neck.

Next, use Trish McEvoy's highlighter over your clavicle bones - and sweep a bronzer from the top of your cleavage to the bottom. Also, bronze below your clavicle for contouring. Use the same highlighter on your temples (lightly dab it on for balance).

It's very important to stand up straight and watch your posture. Don't poke your head forward, keep it long. Stand with your shoulders back and your arms down where the seam of your pants would be.
