5 Gays Talk Project Runway Fall, at Least One Blames Women

From moving to the West Coast, to the influx of celebrity judges, to casting drama over talent, five gay men have offered their theories on why viewership of Project Runway fell 25 percent between the premiere of season six and its ninth episode. One faults having three female finalists (though that happened on Bravo's final season too) saying:

"I am all for diversity and playing to your audience’s demographic, but please. And not to sound completely misogynistic, but three women as finalists? No fags? Really? These women were probably the most talented, but obviously when you tell the Bunim/Murray casting juggernaut, 'This is Lifetime: Television for Women, not talented gay male fashion designers,' you get what you get!"

While he jests (mostly), women probably miss the Christian Sirianos who sharpen their tongues before even threading a needle each morning just as much as gay men do. But what do I know? I only watched the first three episodes.

Oh Snap! Times Square Goes Mad (Men)

I watched last night's season three premiere of Mad Men; did you? However, my viewing party couldn't compete with the big bash held in New York's Times Square. Hundreds of fans in '60s attire joined Mad Men actor Brian Bhatt and Project Runway alum Laura Bennett to watch the new episode and compete in a preshow costume contest. Do, Dump, or Marry? Alec Baldwin

Last night we were treated to the season premiere of 30 Rock's fourth season and Alec Baldwin's Emmy-winning portrayal of Jack Donaghy, Vice President of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming.

I never thought much of Alec until 30 Rock, but what can I say? Humor is a turn on. It's not often I find an older man attractive, but maybe I'll make an exception for him. Or perhaps arrange a sexless marriage?

With season five of the offbeat comedy du jour, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, premiering tonight, I can't help but feast my eyes upon Rob McElhenney. He may be an apathetic, narcissistic, substance-abusing bar "owner" on the small screen, but as the show's creator, he can't possibly be such a schlub in real life. Being adorable never hurt either! In fact, costar Kaitlin Olson found him so charming, she actually did marry him. So what will it be?

Last night, our long, Upper East Side-less Summer came to a welcomed end when Gossip Girl's third season premiered. (Check out BuzzSugar for their favorite WTF moments.) While it lacked the melodrama I've come to love and expect, I was happy to see Blair and Chuck haven't let monogamy interfere with their Shakespearean scheming.

This year, instead of playing each other, they're on the same team, fooling unsuspecting girls into Chuck's arms so that scorned woman Blair can storm in and unleash her faux rage. When the girls run out, Blair and Chuck make out. It's beautiful, really.

The game is an aphrodisiac for Blair at first, who says a relationship's three-month mark is not a milestone but a gravestone, until sage Serena - the one who spent her Summer seeking her father's attention by posing for tabloids - gives Blair advice: make sure you're doing it to keep your interest and not out of fear of losing his. Not bad, S!

While games we play may not be so elaborate and evil - though we welcome your stories if they are! - staging fights in public, pretending you're meeting your significant other for the first time, or even straight-up role play are all viable ways to play games. The Women Behind the (Mad) Men

Considering that Mad Men is everywhere these days (Vanity Fair has an extensive piece on the show this month, and I've noticed on my walks to work that Banana Republic is holding casting calls?!), I decided to break down and catch up on the series before the third season premiere Aug. 16. All I can say is that I'm quickly becoming obsessed with all things '60s fashion and doing my best to remember that cigarettes are not cool.

Now that I'm hooked on the show, I was excited to read all about the women behind the series in today's Wall Street Journal. Ironically, Mad Men's writing team is dominated by women even though, just like 1960s Madison Avenue, a female-dominant writing team is a rarity in modern Hollywood. But on Mad Men, the women writers have brought authenticity to the characters in the show's chauvinistic world, especially the female characters. In the WSJ article, the writers recount a debate they had about whether housewife Betty Draper should have a one-night stand. Although the male writers were against it, they were outnumbered by the women who thought she had to if she was going to take her cheating husband back. Sometimes two wrongs do make a right.

HBO to Air Controversial Big Love Episode Despite LDS Outcry

Thank goodness the show will go on, because I could not take one less of the two Big Love episodes left this season. What's the problem? Sunday's episode will feature a ceremony sacred (and kind of secret) to the mainstream Mormon church.

In the episode, Jeanne Tripplehorn's character, notorious do-gooder and wishy-washy polygamist Barb, goes through an endowment ceremony when she's threatened with excommunication. I hesitate to describe what endowment is because I'll probably get it wrong. But it's like an adult baptism with the water and the oil, and unlike it in that participants are taught gospel laws, given key words they'll need in the afterlife, and tested afterward.

Probably the most accurate depiction you'll find outside a Mormon temple is Sunday's episode. An adviser who is familiar (yet nameless?) with temple ceremonies advised Big Love's producers so they could get every detail right. He even remained on set during filming. HBO has half-heartedly apologized, saying, "Obviously, it was not our intention to do anything disrespectful to the church but to those who may be offended, we offer our sincere apology."

From the church's point of view, HBO is breaking its earlier promise to focus on polygamy and stay away from mainstream Mormonism. But the only legal promise HBO ever made was a one-time disclaimer that aired in the series premiere, stating the modern-day church did not support polygamy.

John Legend & Stephen Colbert Experience the Joys of Nutmeg

Thinking outside the fake-news (gift)box last night, Stephen Colbert premiered A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All. John Legend sang about his love of nutmeg, while Jon Stewart took the opportunity to teach Stephen about Hanukkah with his own serenade. Other guests included Willie Nelson, Elvis Costello, Toby Keith, and Feist.

If you missed the union of two of my favorite things in the world - the holiday season and Stephen Colbert - you can buy the DVD or download it on iTunes tomorrow. The soundtrack, sure to join Bing Crosby and Mariah Carey on the list of classic holiday albums, will also go on sale. A portion of the proceeds go to Feeding America.
